Does anyone play RO? I haven't really played in a while, but apparently they overhauled most of the game (and it's free to play), and it's something like 90% less grindy. I transed a blacksmith and a rogue in a couple of days and I'm working towards Sorcerer for some rape Psychic Wave. If I ever find an Emp we can make some sort of crustacean-y guild and rape WoE since I play on the least populated server.

Also SoundTemp makes a really awesome soundtrack.
Well, I have it downloaded.

I just plain suck at what to level up.

Swordsman and thief classes are usually the easiest unless you're gonna be constantly partying with people, then acolyte->priest is pretty fast. If you need help you can message me on steam. I have a couple low level trans characters right now.

Also http://irowiki.org/wiki/Main_Page has some helpful information about classes, but don't follow their stat builds because they're pretty outdated.

As far as stats go:
AGI is the best defense stat on everyone except tanks since it helps you dodge and attack exponentially faster. You'll never dodge as well as a thief class though since one of their passive skills gives them an extra 30/40 dodge depending on their job.
STR is not super important on anyone who's not a blacksmith or using an extremely high powered weapon due to the changes in the attack formula.
INT can be useful on non-magic classes since it increases your MP pool and 100 int will give you immunities to some of the nastier statuses. It also acts as a modifier for (extremely expensive) MP potions
DEX is important for just about everyone since it effects cast time and chance to hit (though crit builds don't need any since crits can't miss).
LUK effects everything in small amounts, and gives you crit and a secondary dodge stat.
VIT affects max HP, acts as a multiplier for the amount potions heal, and 100 will give immunity to stun, which is one of the more annoying status effects. VIT technically is also a defense stat, though VIT defense sucks and literally just subtracts itself from the damage you take after all the other calculations. When monsters can hit you for 2000 a hit and the max vit you can have as a non third level class is 99 base, it quickly loses effectiveness.
I tried swordsman, but I kind of got frustrated at the fact that I need to keep on using items.

Do I go straight into maxing str first?

Like I said, strength is not vitally important anymore due to the way they changed the attack formula. Agility and dexterity are probably going to be your biggest stats in the beginning since AGI knights/saders are pretty effective. Agility will keep you from from getting hit as often, which keeps potion costs down. It also ups your attack speed, which ups your DPS a lot more than STR.
Renewal RO melee classes will end up needing around 60-70 base DEX eventually to be able to reasonably hit stuff. Getting 90 AGI isn't too crazy (though getting anything past 90 as a non trans is usually not worth it aside from 99int/dex casters).

You're burning the free novice potions though, right? They give you a fair amount and eventually the Eden Group quests will provide you with a few hundred more. Speaking of that, what level are you? Eden Group main quests provide you with very good equipment, especially the weapons. I think the level requirements are 11, 25 and 41. If you need help with them I can bring my priest out to come heal/buff you.

At least this is free.

Also, I been doing it wrong all this time.

I have been playing a Swordsman for a couple of weeks, but the grind is somewhat unbearable.

So, I should put more into AGL until a certain point?

It depends on if you're planning on Crusader or Knight. Spear Quicken is like 1000% better than 2-handed quicken since it gives you 30 crit and 20 flee on top of the 30% ASPD, putting you almost on par with a thief for flee. So Agility helps them a lot. I have 90 agi on my crusader and I dodge just about everything I can even get exp from making it a cheap class. On top of that they buffed Holy Cross to do 900% damage with a 2-handed spear and you can spam that at attack speed (though without INT and tons of blue potions you'll run out of SP extremely fast, making that a super expensive skill to overuse)

If you're going knight you'll probably just want enough agi to hit a certain attack speed breakpoint. Knights can actually benefit almost as much as a blacksmith from STR though, depending on your build. 85-90 total STR,  80 VIT and 60 or so DEX is not a horrible base template (but knight is so boring and overplayed).
http://www.scs.ryerson.ca/~c5tam/aspdcalc/ is a good resource for that.

The grind really shouldn't be bad-- you can trans a character in a solid day and definitely trans one in a week of casual play. You should always be aiming to fight monsters 10-15 levels higher than you since you get a +40% exp bonus. You should pretty much always get at least a percent exp per enemy, and usually 1.5-2% til you hit level 85. Also make sure you have eden weapons if you don't have a few million to spend on gear.

Also what server are you on. I forgot I play on Ygg which very few people do, so I might not be able to party with you Sad
Well, I'm also on Ygg.

I thought I have you on my steam. Time to go Cactus hunting.

Also, I'm usually on Mumble.
Used to play this, I steer clear of the official servers since they're either pay to play or have reduced rates. If you guys find a nice low-rate private server I'd consider joining you.

You can trans in a solid day on the official server the way the changed the EXP tables. It's literally something like 1/28th of the exp required.
