And I start building the prop I was supposed to have for last ACEN.
First step, take a screen shot (or a few) of the model and work out scale from the soldier. Assuming the soldier is roughly 180 cm tall, it makes the rocket launcher about 123 cm long. Damn.
To check that I have the scale right, I made a 2D cardboard copy of it:
Now to start building the skeleton.
Excellent! I can't wait to see final results
HeKÂ if you could add a spring loaded rocket into there, you would be my hero!

Expensive. And requires pumping, I'll look into a compressed air mod for it.
[edit]Yeah, there's a fitting on the bottom that can be modded to fit a small CO[sub]2[/sub] tank, so you could probably figure out a way to fit it inside the RL itself. Not sure how it fits for scale, though.[/edit]
Most cons disallow anything that could fire anything.

fuck yeah, x-files
Look great, what are you planning on making it out of?

I picked up some abs plastic pipe today, I'm going to use that along with laminated cardboard, fiberglass, wood, and PLA.

Including ACEN.

Kirby's 2012 ACEN plan now involves building some prop that stealth integrates the ability to ninja launch some sort of object. I'm thinking a flaregun that
really shoots tampons
The best was at Ohayocon two or three years back there was a guy cosplaying as Frank West in the kids shirt and boxer shorts and he had a megabuster that shot air.
WANT.
I mean, I can't carry around a surplus recoilless rifle with me... probably....

put some temporary neon orange paint on the muzzle and no one would be the wiser.

[/quote]I'd go with Electrical Tape, personally.
Ok, so I did some actual work on it tonight. I made a cylinder...
So here's a shot of all the bits I am using to make the structure:
The green barbell is a bunch of cut down ABS plumbing parts that match the size of the middle bit of the rocket launcher.
So I wrapped it in tin foil:
Rolled in paper:
Wrapped in fiberglass cloth:
Close up of an unfinished end that I will trim off:
Close up of the finished texture. This is paper with two layers of fiberglass:
Ok, So I finally got back to work on this.
Got the bottom half mocked up with paper and cardboard, all ready for lamination:
Found an epoxy system that is low VOC, it's about $60 a litre to start, so we'll see how far I get with it.
