So this is always just something that's bugged me and I want to know if there's any way to fix it. I use backspace to go back pages but when on a google search it auto clicks the search bar and backspaces the text not the page. Any way to change that?

honestly if you have that little cash that you can't go dig in a dumpster for a 2 dollar mouse this minor inconvenience is the least of your worries.
Protip: Google is hooking your backspace key with a script, the same type of script that allows us to hit alt+s to post our replies here on the forum instead of pressing Post with the mouse.

Alt-Left is my weapon of choice.
You could use mouse gestures.
Here's the extension I use for Firefox. There are similar extensions for Chrome, and Opera has gestures built-in. Once you get used to them they are ridiculously useful.
