So the time has finally arrived to where I can get a new monitor to replace this small 19" I've been borrowing for a year after my old 22" ones both stopped working. I'm looking for a 24" 1920x1080 for hopefully $200 or so, but really have no idea when it comes to luminosity, contrast ratio, or other monitor-ery terms. All I care about is that is has to be DVI (which I guess is sorta the standard anyways) and have a mounting bit on the back so I can attach it to my monitor stand. Anyone have any good suggestions?
Samsung, Asus, LG.
Pick the cheapest. For your price range, you cannot really be too picky but you won't be disappointed with a choice of either of the above.
Go for IPS if you can. They are more expensive but look amazing compaired to standard TN montiors (what most standard monitors use). Much more accurate colors and have much wider veiwing angles. They tend to be thinner too, I think.
Of course a good TN still looks good so don't think you are getting anything bad by going that route too. I've always wanted to have a giant 28"+ monitor
though I suspect they will look worse up close at 1080p compaired to a 24" that is also 1080p.
Contrast ratio 9/10 usually doesn't mean jack. Instead, look at the actual monitor in the store if you can, or read reviews on how it actually looks. LED is nice for saving power and tends to produce more natural whites (for good models at least) but most of the time you're not going to notice a difference unless you get a high end LED backlit model, so as such they usually aren't worth the price premium.
On that note, I saw a nice looking 24" monitor on sale for $199 at wallmart the otherday. Was real thin too, and had a cool textured back. Don't disreguard brick and morter all the time! Check the website - they usually have up to date prices with things in store.
I'd try and get a monitor without the added keyboard and mouse... unless if you actually need them. The adapter should work, but I would just buy a cheap HDMI cable if your graphics card has an HDMI output.
It comes with the hdmi cord, I just don't have an hdmi port.
The keyboard and mouse just comes from the sale. Normal price is $250. If it's cheeper than monitors without em then I wouldn't mind.
