So after sporting the bulky demoman costume for a while, I've decided that I'd like a "light" costume that I could wear on off days at ACEN, probably on Thursday and maybe Sunday. So I figure I could pull off an okay Quote, from Cave Story. Looks pretty easy, to be honest. Something to keep in mind is that Quote is never shown in greater detail than maybe 16-bit, so I'm going to have to go based largely off of fanart.
<- It's this guy, right here.
So here's my rundown, which I'll be updating as tonight progresses.
Body
As an almost-anime character, Quote's got a pretty slim physique. I'm probably about average, though I've been starting another lifting regimen. I'll probably shoot for high-volume low-intensity upper body exercises over the next 2 months, and then work on weight reduction as March rolls around.
As for hair, I'll just let what I have (currently medium length) grow out until ACEN. It might be a pain, but at least the Demoman cosplay I'll still be sporting won't have real constraints there. However, there is a problem. Again as an almost-anime character, Quote is never depicted with body hair at all. I'm really hoping this doesn't mean I'll have to resort to waxing my forearms or armpits.
Finally, skin tone. As a robot, Quote doesn't have a normal skin tone. Every cosplay I've seen has been of some guy of peach skin. I'm thinking about going all-out and picking up white latex body paint, though I have no experience with regards to this. Any advice?
Clothing - Currently $80 worth
Everything here's pretty ordinary.
Hat - One Two Three! Complete
Either flat peak or round peak. I'll probably get some craft foam and paint it silver for the front "metal" plate.
Headphones - ??? Complete
This is probably going to be the largest effort. I remember seeing some nice guides on making headphones for Vocaloid cosplays that my girlfriend was doing, I'll probably do something in that realm.
Scarf - One! Complete
Pretty sure I'm going with a green scarf since what little official artwork there is depicts him wearing one.
Shirt - One Two Three Four Five! Complete
Quote is more commonly depicted with a black tank top, but I'm thinking about exerting some creative control and opting for a sleeveless shirt. Doing so will save me some body paint and also lets me not worry about my chest hair being a problem.
Belt - One Two! Complete
Would you believe it, I don't have a belt. Although two of the above images depict him with brown belts, I think black would fit better visually.
Pants - One Two! In Progress
Here's a tough one. Every depiction of him uses either red jeans or red cargo pants. The former aren't really made for men, and the latter are either expensive, hard to find or have some logo on them. This is the best I could find, though I'm pretty sure it won't work since it doesn't have belt loops. Found one that works nicely.
Shoes - Already in possession Complete
Easy, just re-use my black EMT shoes from my demoman cosplay.
Polar Star - One Complete
Probably going to end up repainting a nerf or airshoft gun. My attention span is running out so I'll look more into this later.
Body Makeup - Latex? Aquacolor? idk Complete
