With ZombieCon 2012 coming up, I decided to try and do something more fitting to the show, so I went something that was more prop oriented than just a regular zombie with torn clothes and makeup, cause I really don't want to do the makeup at all.  And while technically not a zombie, he's close enough and it seemed like a fun project.  If I had more money, since the theme of this Con is the "Galactic Infection", I thought it would be hilarious to do a space version.  Space suit, like one of those silvery bags you would equate with something space-like with holes in it for the mask and like a futuristic looking chainsaw, but I only got three weeks and little money lol

I have the mask done, which is made out of burlap and cloth on the inside.  I kinda regret making it out of burlap, cause I think it'll end up being too hot and itchy, but it looks alright though.  Did some sewing on this one and pretty happy with how it turned out.  I do need to make the eye holes bigger, though I am thinking of making a version with just cloth in case it gets too hot with the burlap since I have left over cloth for the interior.

As for the chainsaw, I thought about getting like a real one, seeing if I could gut it and replace the blade with like wood or something so it'll be lighter, but I said screw that and I'm gonna go and make the dual chainsaw version which is "Super Salvador" in the Mercenaries mode.

Gonna be pretty simple (In comparison to my tomislav) to make really with it just being cardboard, poster board, and some PVC piping for the handles.  Also plastic chains wrapping around it.

*EDIT*
I'm totally getting into this "Space Salvador" idea I came up with.  Dark blue coveralls, maybe some Nasa patches for the shoulder, a medic patch for the "doctor" side of Salvador on the chest, a silvery material for the mask, like you imagine those thermal bags would be you see with camping, but could work for the space theme, and then a space chainsaw.  I had the idea to make the chain part of the blade with red LEDS...something like this...

Is this something that could be made to have it's own powersupply built into the chainsaw box to run this, maybe there's a better idea for the LED chain idea? Needs to be pretty simple since I don't know much about electronics involving soldering and stuff like that.

Still gonna do normal Salvador for an alternate costume at cons, but this would be a great one off idea to me lol
Yessssssssssss. Excellent.
For burlap, you can always line the inside with softer fabric. Although this won't help the heat problem at all.

That's exactly what I did! Big Grin I bought some thin, similarly colored fabric and put it on the inside, cause I knew the burlap was gonna be fucking awful.  You can see the fabric behind the eye holes in the picture.  I sewed it to the inside, sewed the three edges together, with it inside out, and then basically turned it back out like a pillow case so you don't see my ugly sewing and seams lol

I am thinking of taking the left over cloth (Have enough to make a second mask if I wanted too) and just having it without the burlap if the burlap is too hot.  It wouldn't look quite as good, but I'll be able to breath at least lol Tough trying to figure out costumes that I won't sweat to death in here in Florida lol

Just need pants, shoes/boots, and to make my chainsaw now.  Bought the posterboard, cardboard, and just gonna use some PVC for the handles since it's cheap and easy to use.
If you want to make the cloth look more like burlap, you can always paint a burlap-esque pattern on it so from afar it looks like burlap. That way it fools everyone else and you won't die from a heat stroke lol.

Heat stroke is not fun, almost had it full blown once lol

Not sure about this whole painting it to look like burlap though.  I lack paint skills and I don't think there's "Burlap" textured paint out there lol I'll see how it looks when I sew up the replacement mask today, but I might just end up bringing both with me, wear the burlap one for a short bit till it's too unbearable and then just switch to the lighter bag for convenience or just take the hit in quality and go with the lighter mask just to make it easier for me.  We'll see though once I make the mask, since this version will be alot quicker and easier to make than the previous one.
Just drink plenty of water you'll be fine, how do you think I manage to do Pyro....
Caff knows the pain of wearing a gasmask for hours on end.  *Fist bump*

Now, do it with 60 lbs of other gear on your chest....
But it's cosplay, why would you suffer when you don't have to?

Its not quite 60lbs, but the flamethrower weighs quite a bit...
I saw this thread and thought of Salvador from Borderlands 2 with a doctor's coat, stethoscope, and reflector.  and maybe dual wielding a clipboard and a syringe for Dr.Gunzerking.

lol I know I have to keep remembering to put "Dr." in the name or even I think of Salvador from BL2.  I thought of making that a cosplay idea, but I haven't worked that idea out fullet yet lol
Welp, time to move out of the cheap starter materials like cardboard.  Nearly finished with my chainsaw and it just came down to the paint not adhering too well to it, even with a coat of primer on it.  And though the thick poster board is a bitch to cut out, making my chainsaw blade look real sloppy, I think that'll be better for the full stuff next time or maybe try out some other materials.  Mostly just held back by my lack of tools right now and costs for more pricey materials.

Just finishing up the paint now and I'll have it put together tonight, so some pictures later.
And here is my pretty much finished chainsaw.  Abit fatter in the end that it probably should be, but it's very imposing for sure, especially compared to other Salvador cosplays I've seen where they have like mini chainsaws lol

Also will probably add some blood to it with just acrylic paint that I can get cheap, see if I can't get it to look alright, but that's quick and it dries fast as I still have two days.

Forgot to put up a picture, can see the basic final outfit and the final version of my chainsaw over here...

While I was happy with how it came out, it'll probably just be a one time costume.  If I was to continue it, I'd probably make it better.  Better material for the chainsaw, also I really need to invest in contacts again lol I couldn't wear the mask and wear glasses at the same time while standing still or I'd fog up, so I spent the entire costume contest without my glasses on which is always fun lol

On to a new project now.  I'm considering something Borderlands 2 related...
The chainsaw looks great! A very nice prop considering the materials you used to craft it.

Thanks! Big Grin I'm definitely gonna try and move onto better materials now for future projects so my props look abit better.
