After tonight's shitfest in the Tech Plant, I started digging around for ini settings that actually benefited rigs as old as mine(6 yrs).

I found it.

[Display]
    FullscreenRefresh=0
    Maximized=1
    RenderQuality=0.500000
    FullscreenWidth=1920
    FullscreenHeight=1080
    WindowedWidth=1920
    WindowedHeight=1080
    Mode=Fullscreen
    FullscreenMode=Fullscreen

    [Rendering]
    GraphicsQuality=1
    TextureQuality=1
    ShadowQuality=0
    RenderDistance=1000
    Gamma=0.000000
    MaximumFPS=1000
    UseLod0a=0
    OverallQuality=-1
    LightingQuality=0
    EffectsQuality=3
    TerrainQuality=3
    FloraQuality=0
    ModelQuality=3
    VerticalFOV=74
    ParticleLOD=2
    ParticleDistanceScale=0.650000
    FogShadowsEnable=0
    MotionBlur=0
    VSync=0

    [Terrain]
    RenderFlora=Off

Render quality down to 50% is offset by actually be able to use the better quality textures. No one cares about jaggy polys when there's no mistaking a target at 100m.
TextureQuality should be set to 3. That's the low setting, oddly enough.

I found this thread that seems to be designed for making PS2 somewhat playable.

Seems legit enough.
The following settings can be set to 0 for possibly better performance. They appear to be classed below "low" when in game. These settings are actually in the thread you link... Big Grin
    EffectsQuality
    TerrainQuality
    ModelQuality

    TextureQuality can be set to 4 for even lower settings than "low"
  ParticleLOD can be set to -1 for lower than "low" settings.

The biggest effect I had was when I set ShadowQuality to 0. I got about 10 more fps with that.

I just wish there was a render distance slider

[/quote]In PS1 you could disable LOD, because at range most models were reduced to stick figure gingerbread men that wobbled as they walked. Complete culling like they're doing just makes the game feel a lot less epic than it is.

Perspective: Playing Warhammer a while back. When they let everyone render 300-500 people in Tier 3 or 4 battles, grinding all hardware, including the servers to a halt. I believe culling is a short term solution deployed for the long term :p
Finally tried out the release client with these settings. I get 60 fps when no one's around, but in any actual fight it's still going down to the 10-15 range.
[Display]
FullscreenRefresh=0
Maximized=0
FullscreenWidth=1920
FullscreenHeight=1080
WindowedWidth=1920
WindowedHeight=1080
RenderQuality=1.000000
Mode=Fullscreen
FullscreenMode=Fullscreen

[Rendering]
GraphicsQuality=1
TextureQuality=3
ShadowQuality=0
RenderDistance=1000
Gamma=0.000000
MaximumFPS=250
UseLod0a=0
VSync=0
OverallQuality=-1
LightingQuality=0
FogShadowsEnable=0
EffectsQuality=1
TerrainQuality=0
FloraQuality=0
ModelQuality=1
ParticleLOD=1
MotionBlur=0
VerticalFOV=74

The settings I settled on.

Dropping the render quality below 1.0 makes the game look absolutely horrific to the point of being unplayable, regardless of the FPS increase.
Well I guess it's settled then.  See yall in six months when I can afford to build a new PC(hopefully).
what's the line for fullscreen windowed? game crashes if i alt tab out of regular fullscreen and steam overlay doesn't work ingame.
A fix for some possible crashing issues, including what was plaguing myself.

GpuPhysics=0

Add this line to your .ini. It stops all PhysX calculations still running, despite PhysX being otherwise "disabled" in the menus.

Added another 15 fps for me, allowed me to go from 0.5 render to 0.8, which makes the game not look like Vaseline is smeared all over my monitor playable.

Does it affect ATI cards? As far as I'm aware they don't use physx.
Apparently it doubly affects ATI cards, although they are anecdotal reports.

Can't hurt to get rid of it then.
I enabled physx, shit looks amazing
These settings go in graphics.ini I'm assuming?
Useroptions.ini

Honestly,  the smoke and mirrors will last about a week and then you'll be back to what a shitty game it is  lol.

Here's some physx in action.    I might just stay in the warpgate with a bag of mushrooms in me just staring at the jump pads.  Seems magical.
