I just got done with finals and was thinking of getting a game to play over break. Anyone have any suggestions? On my to play list is Xcom, Dishonored, Far Cry 3, and Assassins Creed 3. I don't know which is the best for the dollar though, and I'm kinda poor right now. Suggestions welcome.
xcom was like half off recently, i highly recommend it
Dishonored is a really fun, really good looking game.  It's short enough to beat in a week though.  Less if you're in full blown holiday mode.

I don't know about AssCreedIII but based on the other games it's probably in the same boat.

XCOM isn't really like any other AAA game on the market and I love playing it.  It's got tactics, strategy, and the possibility for a mission to go to complete shit with a couple of simple mistakes.

Far Cry 3 I haven't played either, but it sounds like it's better than Far Cry 2 is almost every way and it looks like it certainly has a lot to do in game.

So I'd say XCOM or Far Cry 3, probably depending on which one has the better sale this break.
Hotline Miami. So pretty, and wonderful.
wait for the steam sale to start and then decide
The Walking Dead.

Play one episode a week, or two a week if you have less time.

My personal pick as Game of the year.
XCOM has by far the most replay value.  Far Cry 3 so far has been quite disappointing.  I can't give a real accurate assessment of AC3 or Dishonored but I'd take Dishonored over AC3 any day.
Wizardry Online free, and open beta, plays like the old 1981 wizardry game, rougelike and permadeath mmo.

GREAT MURPHYS GHOST!

thanks man
XCOM probably has the most value for your money, and it's also a very good game.
Another vote for XCOM. Haven't played the expansion but haven't heard anything incredible about it so you can probably skip it for now. They have a second one planned for early next year. Hoping for Cydonia...
Binding of Isaac.

Message me if you are interested in the flash game that keeps on giving.

Or just play PS2 for free.  :-X
Just going by what I've played and is on that list, Far Cry 3.  I got about 20 hours of my run of the singleplayer and it has the map editor and two types of multipler, so you can get alot out of it.  I didn't like Assassins Creed 3 much of what I played.  It takes hours to really take off and it has some pretty bad combat gameplay.  Smooth and easy, but it's boring and WAY too easy.  Should've taken some tips from Arkham City.

I'd put in for Walking Dead also .  It's been getting cheap sales, so wait to get that sale, but it is worth it.  It's not much of a game and mostly an interactive story, but it's a great story.
I'm gonna jump in with Far Cry 3, It's a pretty interesting game, nice open worldspace.
I wouldn't recommend Dishonored though, it's a good game, but once you've beaten it one time, I don;t really feel like there's much incentive to go back and try it another way.
I got XCom. I need to remember just to get the steam gift card next time instead of dealing with gamestop's bullshit impulse system for in-store purchasing of downloadable PC games.
good
So correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Xcom supposed to be an FPS/RTS? I hadn't heard anything about this game since and I was really surprised playing it. It seems like they ended up making Xcom like the old games. I am having a blast playing it though.

You're thinking of XCOM which was announced a few years ago Irrational/2K. This is XCOM: Enemy Unknown by Firaxis (although published by 2K) which is a sort of evolution of the old X-Com. Glad you're enjoying it though.
yeah xcom owns

firaxis did a good job
