Hello,
In an effort to not recycle costumes too much, I'm thinking about doing a new, fairly simple costume for ACEN 2013. Those of you who have played Hotline Miami know of the unnamed protagonist (who people just call "Jacket"). If not, here's a few pictures to give reference:
(center)
In short, he's a mass murderer of questionable sanity, distinguished mainly by his animal masks and his letterman jacket. Think this is a decent cosplay to try to execute?
Materials
Animal mask - While this could be accomplished ala "Don Juan" with my old horsehead mask, I think that mask in particular is too recognizeable for uses in other contexts. I'd probably want to get a chicken or pig mask.
Letterman jacket - Jacket aptly wears a letterman jacket with brown body, cream sleeves, and a golden "B" on the left chest. I found a website where I could custom order such a jacket to near-exact specifications. But, it'd be $200. Worth it? Cyan shirt - Most of the official artwork (including the soundtrack cover) depict him wearing a cyan or turquoise shirt. This'll just be an Amazon pickup, but still gotta list it. Jeans - Yeah, see above. I'm going to splatter these with fake blood though.
Weapons - This is probably the most interesting part. There are countless weapons that would fit canon, but the concern is selecting one that looks good and will get past GAYCEN cosplay standards. I don't think I'd want to do a gun if it means having the stupid orange warning tip. But I'm virtually certain fire axes, golf glubs, knives, baseball bats, and lead pipes are against their policies as well. Whatever I get, I'm splattering with blood.
I'm going to splatter everything except the expensive-ass jacket with blood, actually. Another concept I've been toying with for a long time is local soundtrack broadcasting. Probably one of the most evocative aspects of Hotline miami is its very distinctive soundtrack. If I could find a way to transmit the music at short range (ie not too loud)...probably not a great idea though.
Cosplay cancelled due to budget and time constraints
