Over the last couple months I've been experiencing some slowness in my system, specifically with the GUI and certain internet functions.
The taskbar mini-window previews have been particularly sluggish and do not preview smoothly. In-addition to this, smooth video playback is practically impossible. It seems the whole UI is lagging behind my actions a bit and it's driving me crazy.
I was planning on wiping my drive and doing a fresh install anyway, but it'd be wonderful if I didn't have to.
System Specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel i5 750 @ 2.66 GHz
AMD 5870 HD
8 GB DDR3 RAM
Win 7 is installed on my 220 GB Hard Drive from my 2007 HP computer.
Did you check the Task Manager for anything that looks out of place? I find that internet browsers and flash can become resource hogs if they aren't restarted frequently.

I have. Not even half of my resources are being used and closing both Steam and Firefox and it didn't really affect anything.
If you have league of legends or a number of other free to play games, they use Pando Media Booster. It installs automatically and then boots at startup. It's not necessary to continue to patch or play the game, but it kills bandwidth because it basically uses a peer to peer download method for the game it uses. Make sure to see if pbo.exe is in there to end that, and then uninstall it.
I've run into that one a lot.

I don't think it's a bandwith issue.
That said, I uninstalled it a bit ago. If the slowdowns keep happening I'll post here.

Although it stayed nice for a while, it went back to its old habits. Closing processes and restarting applications does nothing.
Try using CCleaner to get rid of excess junk that might be around.
