Hello,
I'm stuck at a damn fighting game tournament and I have access to neither my video games nor inexpensive liquor so I'm spending my whole day typing up ACEN shit.
ACEN 2014 Community Fund
The BRBU community fund is making a return appearance! Last year we were able to disburse a total of $610 to partially or fully fund 3 members' attendance. I'm reluctant happy to make this available again for the 2014 gathering.
What is the community fund? Basically, it's a pool of cash that members contribute to so that those who strongly want to attend (but are having difficulty gathering the money to make the trip) can join us in May. The fund can cover: travel, hotel, food, and registration, depending on availability.
If you are interested in being a donor, and helping other members attend ACEN 2014, please send me a PM or email and I will get you access to a document explaining further details.
If you think you may need financial assistance to attend this year's ACEN, then use this form to submit a brief application. There is also some info on there regarding how you can receive the funding.
ACEN 2014 Chicago Dinner
For the last 2 ACENs, we have formed a convoy of people to visit downtown Chicago (the loop), eat, and explore if so inclined. I'm assuming people want to do it again, so the big concern is where we can hit up for dinner. I don't actually know Chicago that well (I spent about 99.9% of my time in IL in Evanston) so I need some suggestions on places we can hit up for food. For reference, we ended up having a party of about 25 last year (Gino's East, 2012 was Pizano's). Any suggestions need to be able to accommodate that many people, and I would work with them far in advance to have our seating (and food) ready when we arrive, because no one wants to spend 4 hours of their weekend-long con waiting or doing nothing. Let's limit our scope to anything within walking distance of a Blue-line stop. Inexpensive is good.
ACEN 2014 CALLOUT
This is a little bit different. I've been to what, three ACENs now? And yet a lot of the members who I play with the most online have yet to attend one. So, this is a little project meant to encourage members who may be able but are not strongly inclined to attend into joining us this year.
I'm not going to beat around the bush here. Dr. Commish, Negate, Moosendoo, K2, Didzo, Karth, Elder, Rummy, Kor, Corpsefactor, Tom, Jokerr, NiceGuy, Nitrous, Vlambo, Mission Difficult, Swain, Sogo, Wyrmidon, Chronomaster, Squishy, Ianki, StolenToast, DarkChief, LV15Gamer, Black Aspen, Zargon, Tortilla, Gentz, Matter11, Chooly, Vongore, we want you to come to ACEN 2014. It will be my goal this year to get as many new faces to attend as possible. To do this, I'm going to need the help of the rest of the attendees: Help by talking to those who haven't attended before and explaining why the event is something we look forward to every year, and help by contributing to the community fund, as it is almost a guarantee that some have elected not to attend for financial reasons.
I will be putting out a document by the end of the day month extolling the convention and trying to address a few of the common barriers to attendance. Expect me to pester a fair number of you on steam with this as well!
(sorry if I didn't list you on here, it means either I missed you running down my friends list or you were at one of the last 3 ACENs)
