Didn't someone say the tech in these isn't all that different from the last generation? I think it was techcrunch...
Mongoose, are you thinking of the 770? It was essentially a re-tuned 680 and used the same architecture.
I think the amount of performance they get for the power usage looks awesome, things are headed in a good direction.
My upgrade schedule has been to skip a series generation. But this time I had been trying to hold out on upgrading my 560 Ti until these Maxwell cards came out and I'm very glad I did. For the price of a 770, the 970 does amazing things.
I'm not sure how well it will play with my 3570K and Z77 chipset compared to the newer stuff, but I am hoping this is a solid upgrade for my rig until I can save up to buy a new CPU/Mobo/RAM/PSU combo.
i do want a 980 but with a 770 running every game i play at over 60fps maxed at 1080p i dont see the point in upgrading.
(Besides the obvious i have a better card than you)
Just get me a quantum computer already so it can learn my personality kill me then go all skynet

They're not that great
Late to post this, but I got a MSI Gaming version GTX 970 last month as a birthday present to myself.
I am quite pleased, quite.
I'm rocking a GTX 560. Probably time to upgrade, eh?
Note apparently evga versions have a whine sometimes.

The 970 vram drama-bomb has me irritated with nvidia. Anyone have any thoughts?

While my builds are all AMD (GPUs (but Intel CPU's)) the irritation I have from this is two fold:
1: I was seriously looking at this as an option for a friend's build
2: I'm getting tired of hearing about it. From what I understand next Nvidia Beta drivers fix it anyway.
