Be Right Back, Uninstalling

Hey guys I am trying to do Corvo from Dishonored this time around. My only problem is the coat at the moment. I have a fabric picked out and have lots of muslin fabric to toy with, but I lack patterns is the problem. That and the design of his back seems to be confused, I see some with split tails and a gusset or gore is what I think it's called as a backing to the "tails." The other back design is all one piece so I'm not 100% sure on where to go with that part. I like having the gusset cause it seems like I'll be able to move my legs with a bit more ease. That and I'm not nailing the era or region of his coat 100% cause I'm getting wildly different designs from google. Anyone have any tips or good template ideas?

Been busy so I haven't been able to get the base coat design done much. But here is the bottom part. Still gotta cut out the yoke and some small cutting errors but that's what muslin is for, eh?

Corvo looks like a fun one! No tips here, if I knew how to tackle it I would consider doing so myself

Agreed on that last point though, go for gusto and not the pre-made.

Looks like your typical lab coatish article of clothing (I was reminded of my medic cosplay actually)
You can probably take something like a trench coat from a thrift store, draft patterns from it while making the appropriate alterations
Or buy a pattern for a trench coat / military coat
I think you'll want to make it so that the front doesn't close to get that open coat effect. What I mean by this is to make it so that the front of the coat is "too small" to close up (cut out a gap with original coat pattern). If you decide to make it more functional and able to be zipped/buttoned then when you have it open, the fabric will drape quite loosely in the front and you may not be able to see much of the inner vest, etc.
I recommend making the inner vest as a separate piece. It's more work but would look and wear much nicer imo. (and it's more ~accurate~) But if you want to make it all one piece I suppose you can just alter it so that the coat+vest zips up with an invisible zipper in the vest.
And if it's actually one piece then pls disregard the above commentary.

As for the back the shading makes it look like it's doing some optical illusion shit. Easiest method is to just line with the gold and be done with it. Or you can make this part:

and put it on top of the coat then when you get to the belt area, have the middle strip:

be on the inside of the coat

you can create the weird optical illusion thing by hiding the seam/break with the belt.
