Yesterday two people came into the server, and individually at one time or another sprayed hateful things on the wall, outside the spawn, or on the ground. Kor brought up an interesting point in that, videogame's are not meant to be political. Why, then, should someone have to try and have a good time playing videogame's and look at things that are hateful toward them on the wall? It makes one feel unwanted, and pretty much is only there to cause a hateful reaction. Honestly if I wanted to go look up things that are hateful towards people I could easily go to 4chan or Encyclopedia Dramatica but I think that shit should be kept out of TF2.

Now after thinking about it for a bit, I have an idea and I wanted to see what other people on the forum and in the server thought about it. I remember seeing a server on TF2 that had something along the lines of:

-No racism
-No Prejudice (be it in comments or spray form).

I think that would be something good to put on the chalkboard when you first enter the server. I don't see how it would take away anyone's freedom unless they had already intended to be a troll. It would keep the peace in that respect and make it a real rule for the server. (Of course rules are meant to be broken). But I still think it's a good idea, what do you think? Smile
Hmmm....In general Ive been one to advocate not policing sprays, at all. Tends to lead down a slippery slope where you have to start policing all sprays, then its up to the interpretation of the admin as to what is and is not offensive and of course this is going to vary depending on the admin.

We'll see what the general populace says, I have no problem with kicking/banning people for homophobic/racist speech, but sprays are something different.
I can sum up the rules the server needs into one line.

"Don't be a douchebag." Or, "Don't be a dick." It works well for a forum I moderate, and it will work well for the server. Instead of trying to identify every possible infraction, leaving room for people to try to work the system. Instead, we have something simple, easy to remember, and easy to work with.
If someone's a douchebag like that, just tell me.  I'll gladly come on and ban them.
I'm sure this directly stems from the "Yiff in hell, furfag" spray that was being used by the problem group. With that said, sprays of this nature won't be tolerated beyond the first spray, at least when I'm around. Sprays don't need to be derogatory to be humourous, and anything found that's overtly offensive should be warned/kicked/tban. I know the difficulty of tracking who sprays what, but in most cases the offenders are obvious due to the lack of playtime on the server.

Isn't something like that already there?

I totally agree though. Instead of very specific rules that people will always try to skirt around, just a general "spirit of the rules" rule can work so much better. Of course it does leave things more open to admin/mod abuse, but that's a good risk imo. Smile
I'm for as much free speech as possible on the server. However, I think racists, gay-haters, furry-haters and their ilk should be kicked/banned, whether they express their hate in chat or with a spray. I think what Luca said covers all of that, "Don't be a dick".

Also, I noticed today there's a typo on there...it says voilators instead of violators.

rumsfald

You can have my sprays when you pry them from my cold, dead hands.
I think there was an admin plugin I seen that lets you preview the persons spray..

That reminds me about something. I need to learn sv commands. I only know how to change gravity, and that's it. Also, changing gravity late at night = fucktons of fun. Ask Versus and Neonie about last night on Duel.
Yea I'm not sure if its there but I support the chalkboard saying something along the lines of the only rule of this server is do not be an asshole.  You get one warning if admins think you are being a dick in any way.

Or something of that nature, I dunno.  It seems to work though.  We've had some chick in that have liked the server because they don't get hassled for being chicks.  And other people.  Ive gotten some complements when I was adminning alone and for what ever reason they found out.  They were like this server has a really cool atmosphere.

The problem is you police this, then you gotta start policing porn sprays, at least in my eyes. I really would rather not like a hypocrite. If you see that one and thats the only one that bothers you get a big old yiff spray and put it right on top of it if you dont like it.

These are the people that you pitch the forums to

If I'm not mistaken, there's a mod that tells you the owner of a spray when you hover over. Useful for figuring out who has the awesome "Spy-checking pyro" spray, etc.

YOU BROKE MY SPY DAMAGE STAT!
were some people don't like furry porn, those yiff in hell sprays are hate messages to groups of people, I don't consider them to be on the same level as furry porn sprays.

I think this is it.  Spray Tracer (there's some interesting stuff here)

And the plugin in action:

QFT (I assume QFT means "quoted for truth". I don't know if I'm right or not).
