First server prices are up, offering a private server with 12 slots for $12/mo, and $18/mo for public.  I would favour a private server as it is cheaper, doesn't seem likely to draw community with a public one anyways, the game plays best when people already know eachother, and the game doesn't take many people to play.  I think even if it were just used for a weekly event, $12/mo ain't a bad price, and I'm sure we'll get more use out of it than that.  I'd also vastly prefer our own server for when custom content/server mods hopefully crop up.
What the Hell is the difference between private and public in this case?

Honestly it's hard to tell other than a public one potentially being used by the game matcher thing.  I guess a lot depends on if the server browser gets moved in as a proper part of the game.

I'll hold off on voting for this for now , untill i see how priv servers work out ,
whats wrong with someone hosting off their own box like i was doin this aft'  ?
or i wasnt doing any hosting this aft and it was going to a pub ?

You mean other than the godawful pings and d/c's everyone got?  And it may have gone to a pub server for you later today, that seemed to be working more (but when I played, we still got connected to a server where everyone had shit pings).
Ain't touching this topic until the dust settles from the betademo.
Who are the providers giving those prices? Cuz there are some pretty shitty providers out there...

Id go with yes, since they are on the cheap I could stick like one on the east and one on the west coast.

However, if people wanted it we would need a one time large cash infusion from the people who wanted to run them. When Kor and I did Server #1 we each threw in well in excess of over $100 so we wouldn't have to worry about it for a year.

You could always start a new account somewhere, or we could tie them all together, I don't think Ill have the time necessarily to manage additional left4dead servers.
I will be willing to donate.  Just let me know how much roughly and I will comply Smile

what i meant to say was , ill put up some scratch for a server(s) if they make it so we can default connect to ours , even if its PW'ed

Yeah, I'm confused if it's going to be possible to use the lobby thing AND connect to a server of your choice or what.  Hopefully that mess get's sorted out...

with that , then i'd go in for 1 or 2 servers, private tho. otherwise they will always be full cause of dickcheezes filling it up

or posslby a toggle during the evenings , so we can grow the community a bit ?

Few things to note, there's a browser now that you noted, there's also a console variable, sv_allow_lobby_connect, set that to 0 and it keeps random lobby pubs from joining, however people can still  randomly join via the server browser.
I'm going to ask a question that will get me chided for not looking it up myself, but maybe I'm not the only one ignorant of how this works.

Servers for this game... they're at 4 slots, right?  Four survivors, four slots, that's it.  If there's a 12-slot server, are people going to play same survivor models (6 Zoes <3) or are they going to sit in spec and wait for their turn?

I believe it's 4v4 in versus mode, 4 Survivors and 4 zombies. I heard that it would also be 4 specs as well, but currently the servers default to 14 slots when launched (or so the HLDS list would lead me to believe). So honestly, who knows? I'm not sure Valve even knows what their plan is at this point.
I'd be willing to help admin said servers. I won't be able to help put some cash down on it now, but I might be able to later.
I converted my server temporarily to l4d (it's shut down now) because us euros needed a place to play... Not sure if I'm making it permanent but once it's finally running it plays well...

I can eventually donate some change to a L4D Server, I'd be a great admin aswell if the need should come up
will to put towards american servers and helping with ains maintenance costs.
also experienced and ruthless admin here.
