Has anyone else had issues over the past few weeks? For about two weeks now my ping has been 150+ when it used to be 50. What's the deal?  :'(

Run a trace router and Gmail me the info, Aerox had a similar problem with a level 2 routing issue with his ISP that was fixed after I submitted the ticket and trace route.

Alternatively ping has been spiking here and there, possibly someone attempting to DDOS game servers again, but that's been intermittent.

Lastly Ive noticed a lot of stuttering in TF2 in general, not just #1 either  :-\
Mission only posted this so he could blame lag for him dying. True story. Smile
Yeah, I was definitely getting some lag spikes when playing today.  I'll see if it keeps up...

I opened a ticket, likely wont get a response on it until tomorrow, we'll see
Quote:Dear Customer,

Ticket NXZ-57771 has been updated by Brendan Kiel [staff].

Your server had a lot of sprays from random players loaded on there.  There was about 800MB of them.  Every time the server would call for one of them to be used, it would have to find it on that list of 800MB of them.  I have deleted these sprays off of the server.  This is a common cause of lag, and I wouldn't doubt if this resolves your issue.

Not to worry, any of your regulars' sprays will automatically update themselves onto the server next time they join.

Restart your server and you're good to go.

If you have any further questions or need anything else, let me know.

Cheers!

Sincerely,

Brendan Kiel

Sprays Sapping my Server. For Reals.
Why would the server need to save all the sprays?
I can see the server saving the sprays, it needs to transfer them to connecting clients.
I don't see having that many static files effecting performance or latency; not unless the server cached them in memory leading to other problems.

Its probably that, or having to parse the 800 megs of files, that's a metric fuck-ton of sprays, considering maybe the max size of most sprays is maybe 100 - 200 K at most. So On average say 10 sprays per megabyte of data, that comes out to probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 65,000 - 75,000 files, every time someone joins the server it copies the spray, and if you use multiple sprays over time it caches all of those as well.

I'll see if I can notice any difference in the server tonight when I play, if its noticeable after they cleared out all the files, I'll forward it on to the HLDS emailer, it might be something Valve might want to look into or at the very least plugin authors, have the server delete sprays after they are X days old.

Keep in mind that this build up was over a year long...so basically from the day we started the server until now, those files have never been cleaned up or wiped.
So does that explain finally why the spray plugin displays a spray, that's not there? (looking at blank walls and it gives the spray pop-up)

That's possible but I'm not entirely sure, if you don't see any (or very few) ghost sprays any more this may have been part of the issue
Wow!  So are the lag spikes over then?

Also next time I see a furry spray I'm blaming them for breaking the internet.
:o :o :o
Not sure if that was the issue, but last night around midnight my ping slowly went down to about 40-50. Hopefully it stays there. Thanks Caff and Dr. Worm!

Aerox

I knew there was something up.

Yay!  I'll check it out when I get home tonight.
What the shit?  Why does it not delete it out after the client disconnects and then recache as needed?

Valve likes to forget to do simple things.

Check your own local folder, you probably have a good cache of sprays yourself, last time I looked there was a lot of porn
