Some random Gchat discussion resulted in questioning Hit Rating and its effect on combat.
While i could explain it all here in a limited fashion (and with poor spelling), I recommend that you check out a number of websites which I have found invaluable in guiding me through the complicated World of Wcraft.
Class Mechanics:
Each class behaves differently and requires different attributes to be maxed out in order to perform to its maximum capacity.

Rating your Character at 80:
Once we all get to the magic number, it will become apparent that there is still a lot to do.
In order to compare and contrast your char and the entire guilds rooster for one particular class (for bragging rights and so on) then check out

DPS is your damage per second and goes a long way (all the way in fact) to deciding how effective your char is in combat situations.
