Full Version: Ideas for Seeding Server 2 During FNF

It seems that for almost as long as we've had server #2, we've nearly always had trouble seeding it during FNF. Since FNF is our primary community night and is the best way of recruiting new members, I feel like this issue needs some more attention. After a short conversation with Luin in IRC, I've realized this is somewhat of a big issue and decided to push for ways to get server #2 full during FNF.

Don't you hate it when you go to jump in server #1 for FNF and it's full? I know I do. What are you options? Personally, I either get on the wait list and find some other server to play in (not one of ours as #2 is usually empty) until a spot opens up or I just give up and decide that I have something else I could be doing instead of waiting. I know I'm not the only one who does this. This is a real shame because the whole point of FNF is getting a chance to play with all the awesome people that make up this community. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that we have a second, perfectly good server that is being underutilized during one of the most important community events.

So what I want from you guys are some Ideas. What can we do to help solve this problem? I know Caff has tried things in the past, most recently the "keep it full" contest, and while contests like that are great and I appreciate Caff's effort, they seem a bit like temporary solutions. I'm looking for a more permanent solution to help keep server #2 occupied during FNF.

The idea that I had was to get a FNF host for each server. That way fun things could be planned by each host for each server without BRBUers feeling like they are missing out if they can't get on server #1. This might even allow more freedom for each host. An example would be if one host wants to have a mic spam night. If some people are against it they could go to the other server which would have its own theme going. Another example is if one host wants to have a more serious scrim night, the same deal applies. Hopefully our system of rotating hosts would prevent people from flocking to just one server or one host and encourage them to go try the other server/host.

So what are your thoughts? Any ideas?

There's your problem. Instead of trying to fix the problem with your own 2 hands you wait and hope the problem fixes itself. Take some action and get on that server and invite the shit out of it. If it doesn't work (which trust me, it won't some of the time) at least you know you tried to help. If you do get someone make them invite and eventually people from brbu who have everyone on their friends list will crack and join saying "STOP INVITING ME I'M HERE >Sad"
If you try to host two nights, you split people too much and you dont get a "full" night out of either, then you might have both servers competing for people.

What I have tried in the past was to get a pubby game going on #2, it has an all-popular-stock rotation, the thing it lacks is the history #1 has. Since #1 has been around for so long it is on a lot of people's favorite list, that was part of what the contest was supposed to accomplish - getting it on people's friend list.

What needs to happen in my opinion is that two to three people need to be dedicated to 'seeding' #2 both during normal weekday and TFT/FNF in order to start building a non-community member favorites list base.

The contrast can be remarkable sometimes, if you get 10 or so people in #1, it fills itself up all the way very very easily, but if you stick a comparable number of people in #2, nothing happens.

If anyone wants to try to fill role or has any ideas please post them here. I'll probably be re-running same contest we did earlier sometime in December.

I am trying to fix it. That's the whole point of this thread. I'm trying to get some sort of larger scale plan going to help solve this problem rather than focusing on the short-term goal of just getting it seeded for one night.

It will take time but the best thing to do is for some people to just try to get a game going there every day, and over time it will develop its own player-base just like #1
I didn't mean to imply that I was upset or anything... I know I could have seeded #2 as well, but a> I wasn't really in the mood to play that much anyway, and b> it's not as much fun as being with everyone else. I just opted to listen to music and relax instead, was burned out from that paper.

I know that seeding #2 is a good idea and that it can build up its own fan base; I would totally have helped with that, but I wasn't in the mood. I don't want it to seem like I was moaning about being unable to get in or anything like that, or ignoring #2; it was meant to be in passing more or less.

I didn't create this thread based on that conversation alone. You just confirmed that I wasn't the only one who gets discouraged when trying to hop on FNF and server #1 is full while server #2 is empty. You make a great point, trying to seed #2 during FNF usually isn't as much fun as playing with everyone else on #1. That's one of the things I was trying to get across in the opening post.
I could certainly try to seed #2 during the week, but usually the times that I get on both are empty and I just seed #1 due to habit. I guess I'll start by seeding #2 first for a while and see what happens.
that's why one is named red and one is named blue
where one is defiantly greater than two, red is only greater than blue by opinion Smile
Why don't we just do FNF on Server 2 sometime? I mean if Server 1 is on more people's lists like Caff says, it would be easier to get non-community members to join it if we have a smaller side match if that's the open one. If there's a reason with scripts or something on servers that limits this, sorry.
I'll try my best to pick up the gauntlet and seed #2 more, especially since I can use my Touhou skins on it ;3
I can't stop pplaying prop Hunt.. I'm fucking addicted man  :'(

Yes I could do this, but this still doesn't solve the core problem of it building up its own player base, its locked during FNF so it really doesn't matter.

Big Grin
Hmm... what if we gave priority to people who helped seed 2 before TFT and FNF? Is there any way you could give them a priority on server 1 and maybe randomly kick someone who hadn't been seeding?
BRBu has IRC? Damn, I've been here 13 months and I never knew that.
