I think fixed water physics is my most wanted feature from minecraft outside of like a roguelike dungeon mode.

The question is how do you do them properly? Do them wrong and you could flood the map. Might just be better off assigning a water level and having it 'flood' to that level if there's natural water next to it

But how would that work with underground water sources?

I think he's saying it would only fill to match natural water if it were adjacent to it; isolated water wouldn't be affected.  So, if I dig a pit next to the ocean, the pit fills to ocean level.  If I dig a pit next to an underground lake, it rises only to match that lake.  If I just dump bucket into a hole in the ground, that's that.

But if you were to make a waterfall from the ocean into an underground cavern and it hit a underground water source, the underground water source would rise to ocean level, flooding everything above it.

Which is exactly what should happen.
i like the game-y water physics as they are, i honestly dont even want to think of the cpu load dwarf fortress water would weigh on the game, especially with java and notches seeming inability to optimize his code

My bloody PC would have exploded with the TNT. Optimize Minecraft and get it off Java and I'll make an explosion four times the size of this one, record it, and throw it on you-tube. Till then, my PC can't handle FRAPS and Minecraft very well. (Besides, you set off that much TNT and you get 1 FPS consistently for about a minute anyway)
