Hey guys! I know I'm a bit of a one-post wonder, but I've been working with Demonspork on web-based stuff. My current task? Overhauling the entire website!

Now, since Demonspork first set up the server & site, he's had photo gallery page with one slight problem: it has no damn photos! "What gives?" you ask, "Why are there no photos in this photo gallery?" WELL I'LL TELL YOU! It's because you're all LAZY BASTARDS!

Here's my plan. See, as you most likely know, we have this very nifty Overviewer Map. Not only does it show who's online, where they are, and what their skin is, but it also has the lovely function to mark Points of Interest with signs. But, the Overviewer doesn't quite capture everything that makes a Point of Interest, well, interesting. Especially if it's underground.

Solution: Incorporate the Points of Interest signpost system with the photo gallery, so when you click on them you can see screenshots of the area!
Yeah, it's doable, although it hasn't been attempted yet. Hopefully it will take less than a week.

SO, THAT GIVES YOU ONE WEEK TO START ACCUMULATING PHOTOS OF YOUR FAVORITE LOCATIONS AND VALUED CREATIONS.
Post them here in this thread, and specify which Point of Interest they correlate to. If possible, name your shots in the format [POI]_[thing].jpg (or png, etc.) For example: Vennora_CapitolBuilding.jpg. This will make it easier to sort all of the files, so whenever a user clicks the @Vennora sign it will load all of the pictures whose name starts with "Vennora."

For the "tl;dr" crowd around here: GO TAKE SCREENSHOTS OF STUFF GOGO

To start us off: some of my own screenshots: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/3926043/1...d?h=303c16
well as soon as i've got something to screenshot, i will surely do so =^^=
looking forward to seeing the first shots. i've seen some great buildings so far, but since i just re-entered minecraft today, i have not the slightest idea where they actually are lol. which makes this map all the more useful for me. thanks for doing this.
none of my creations are visually done yet.  Sad
Nice!  I'll try and take some pics soon.

Unrelated: what texture pack are you using, Solus?

use the signs that start with # as the Points of interest. If there is a building you think should have some screenshots of it put up, name the building on the map using a # sign and then take pictures and link to them here.

PLEASE STICKY THIS SOMEONE!! or give me the power to sticky stuff in this forum
@ZargonX: Painterly Pack. It's fucking amazing, and native resolution to boot.

@Demonspork: I was avoiding tackling the # signs, if only because the old half of the map is painfully overfilled with them. If we only start off with the @ signs for major cities and continents, then it'd be easier to sort the folder gallery. With the naming system I proposed, it would find all of the pics related to the @ signs first, and then when browsing all the photos, it would try to parse the last bit of the filename to find the matching # sign and zoom in on the map.

I propose a new rule, regulation of the # and @ signs.
# signs may be used to designate important buildings that are easily seen from overhead. But limit these signs to a maximum of 1 per chunk
@ signs may only be used to designate continents or massive constructs (Things that span multiple (the majority of 4 or more) chunks)
..just some suggestions, a jumping-off point if you will.
The only trouble I see with your suggestion, Ekarus, is the fact that all of the old signs are still there nonetheless. Unless we wanted to set it up to use an entirely new set of handles... ($, %, *, etc)

1st... You can post more than one link in a single reply
2nd... NAME THE PICTURE. Name it after what it is. We have no idea where that is or what to call it. Also put a signpost with the name that starts with a #, it will then show up on the map.

3rd to solus - let's just use the # symbol, there doesn't have to be a picture just because there is a sign, just let it use pictures when there are pictures and use nothing when there is nothing. the @ symbol is for major regions and attractions, the # symbol marks things that we could eventually take pictures of.
Give me like a week to sort out my folder and I'll have some goodies for you.
dumb question: when I take screenshots ingame, where are they dumped to?
