November 4th

I hope we can get a night dedicated to this. OR atleast some of the guys who want to play this because I have a feeling I will be playing this often.
hell yeah. day before my birthday, though. Tongue

there'll have to be at least one night a week dedicated to this. >Big Grin

i don't usually read much about games before they come out ( ruins the surprise ) so i wont be clicking that link.

that said , I'll give it a try and hope we can hamachi some Multiplayer.
Hamachi it?  Maybe we can have a dedicated server or two.  Since the game is only 4-8 slots for a server.  And besides, I'm going to want to play it with a sub 100 ping, unlike what I get connecting to any of you living 3000 miles away that always host these things ;P.

Also this is the day after my birthday, so yay me.

Think of those zombie mods we've played, except done by Valve. ^_^
yeah, think zpo maps, but more awesome.

I can understand that..sometimes too much hype gives you too high of an expectation and can ruin your experience in the long run. This was actually supposed be released last November though, but I am guessing the acquisition of Turtle Rock Studios by Valve had something to do with it's delay.

I'm gonna be broke this Fall..between Socom Confrontation, Force Unleashed, L4D, and the numerous other games dated for late '08.

I also need a higher rated dual core proc..my 1.9 chugs with the high setting on TF2..kind of ironic that it runs DMC4, Lost Planet, and Crysis at a higher fps than TF2 at the highest settings..but that's the source engine for you..
I will own this game. And if a dedicated brb.u server doesn't get set up for it, I might have an unused box for us by then. I can't wait!

WHAT!?  That makes NO sense at all, any system that runs those games decent should be running any Source based thing twice their speed.

Also I wouldn't compare L4D to any of the zombie mods we've played.  We haven't done anything that pits us against hordes of undead AI, and all I know of that does is Brainbread and Killing Floor (maybe Zombie Master or whatever, but I never played that).
no u wedge Tongue
Looks interesting. Not sure if I'll get it or not.

To my knowledge, the source engine isn't optimized for multi-core machines. That's why in the system requirements it says the proffered core speed is an P4 3Ghz. I'm pretty sure the source engine is CPU heavy too..which doesn't make much sense if they haven't optimized for dual core..

All I know is I get 40-45 fps average in TF2 with all settings on high and I get 60ish for DMC4 DX10 version.

In L4D there will be A LOT of enemies on screen so I'll need the CPU to handle that kind of a beating.
Ill be picking it up, the one problem I see is that it doesn't support enough people at once Sad

So you're running it in Vista too?  And in what resolution?  I wonder how much that stuff effects it.  Coz' I can run it in XP on an AMD 4200 dual core (so that's like around 2+ghz each core) at 1280x1024 and it's silky fucking smooth on max settings (rest of system is 2 gigs of RAM and an 8800GS).
I think I run it at 1440x900. And yea I have Vista...sigh. I could turn the resolution down, but I don't think it will help too much. I've been wanting to get a better proc. anyways. I might experiment with resolutions tonight.

I have to agree, but the game was built for straight up co-op so I can understand. I might have a box lying around that I could use as a server. I've actually never used a computer as a server, but my brother runs one for data storage..I guess I could ask him.

Experimenting with resolutions on an LCD is like experimenting with your brother. You'll never like the results.

looool. yeah. either play it at native resolution, or get a smaller monitor. Tongue

also, duck, I sent you a message, but disregard the computer part. Smile
1440x900 is the native resolution.. :-\

Yeah I don't think it's the resolution.  I firmly blame Vista ;P.  Getting a better processor would be good, but depending on your socket, that may or may not be practical...
We'll have to play this all night every night for at least the first month.
