everything borked. I'm also typing this on my iPhone for obvious yet painful reasons.  Startup completely fail's and I can't auto repair it from the vista disk. I think its cuz it is trying to restore everything including the drive letter, I dunno I'm hoping my backup is not bad :'(.  Any advice would be appreciated. I don't have much resources just my phone at the moment.
Lol. Sucks Surf. That phone have any kind of messenger on it? I would try to help, but right now I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you restoring an image from THAT computer, or from a different computer? Because I would think the drivers and everything would tend to kill everything.

edit: even google chat would probably do
its this or texting unfortunately. Yes it is from a different computer so you are probably right all the drivers and shit are probably fucking it up, also I think its trying to rename the partition which would also be a no no. Thing is you are supposed to be able to transfer a complete backup to another pc. I'm just not figuring out where to tell vista to do that instead
hate to say it duck but this is somethi g apple does better and I mean way better, like Shakespeare vs only one monkey with a typewriter and he's also retarded and has only got about a week to take on the complete works better.
Both of these partitions are on the same hard drive?

Also, maybe this will help?

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorial...al145.html (restoring an image is at the very bottom of the page, just jump down there if you're confident you made the image properly)

Hurr, yea... Course with Linux, you can just install shit to a separate partition that way you only have to format specific parts of it. And that's IF you ever need to reimage, which you shouldn't.

finally grabbed the wifes laptop, am on irc.

Also much thanks I think I may have figured out what I was doing wrong (OK I definately figured it out) unfortunately I may have already borked the partitions...so did I mention I'm on IRC?

I mean if you are available.  Also if you are ever in Florida I owe you a beer or something.

For the record I think that microsoft making their great new backup and restore utility that you have to pay top dollar for have a box that if you check will completely fuck your harddrive up is one of the stupidest things ever.  Also if you are going to have that box, at least explain the full implications behind it.

My new ranking:

Linux>nothing>nothing>OSX>XP>Vista

Only cuz OSX does backups the right way, and linux has it too but you need to know stuff to use it.

Also 3 hours of sleep FTL, haven't even gotten to the point where I can do my work yet.

Actually I think it was user error...I deleted my disk label somehow.  Must have been the lack of sleep.

PBKAC - Problem between keyboard and Chait
Its not so funny when you've lost time, sleep and possibly money doing this stuff over and over again, most of the problems not even being my fault.

And admit it caff vista backup is next to useless and is a misrepresentation of what you are getting.

My only hope at this point is that my files backup will work if I install all the programs first, I'm hoping it will over right all the database files with the old ones giving me my database back, since thats all ive been doing for the past 2 weeks, putting stuff in that database.

Oh it it worthless I know, I just use multiple hard drives and dont bother trying to restore a registry or anything. Just move critical files Wink
I got it working, also wish I knew how I got it working worked, cuz it was much easier and I could have saved my XP install, oh well at least now I can go clean and get the performance boost.  Vandam whats this I here about custom installs  ;D

Theres custom XP installs that remove some of the junk and come with things like office or various adobe programs pre-included into the registry and install.

Helps clean up the junk that comes default with XP and it means less time reinstalling shit for you.

Vandamguy

theres xp custom installs all over the place bro
the pirate bay
download more than one though , because the first one you download is going to be a fake ,and the second will have a virus
If only games where made for linux, I'd never have to look at windows again...
