Since we have had a movies/music thread, I guess we should have one for TV too

My favorite and probably the best TV Comedy to ever air - Mystery Science Theater 3000

Unofficial Top 10 Mike Era (later Season) top 10 lines

Top 10 Mike-Era WTF moments

Another Best-Of Compilation

Such a great mix of high and low brow humor, combined with both easy to connect references and some really  obscure ones that not everyone might get, its a shame this show was only 10 seasons long, and some of the latter episodes are my favorites. It probably could have kept going, but they were unable to pitch the 2 hour time slot the show had.

My other favorites:

Venture Brothers - if you haven't seen this, you need to spend some time with adult swim

Aqua Teen Hunger Force - its really fallen off recently, but the first 3 seasons are gold, esp anything with the Mooninites

Ren & Stimpy - going back to look at this, I wonder how Nick showed it in the first place, its so lewd

Family Guy (through Season 5)

Simpsons (only up to like Season 8)

Southpark

Seinfeld - NO SOUP FOR YOU

Lost - Just watch season 1 & 2, then stop and never watch anything after that
Mr. Show
Kids in the Hall
Futurama
And Dexter is alright too.

Yeah Simpsons realy went downhill after season smiley-face-wearing-sunglasses.

Also, Lost season 4 was really good. Last few episodes of season 3 were pretty decent too.
Doctor Who
Battlestar Gallactica
Daily Show
Colbert Report

These are really the only shows I watch anymore...there is only so much time in the day.

I'm snagging Torchwood through netflix and watch lots of random anime through them too.

Had to turn off smilies, Season 8, theres a few gems after that buts its nothing like the earlier seasons which had almost all good episodes
Some of my favorite shows are cancelled now.
  • Andy Richter Controls the Universe
  • Dead Like Me
  • The Tick
  • Greg the Bunny
  • Firefly

Fox is especially bad at this. Chances are if it's on Fox and I really like it, it'll only last a season. But American Idol will still be airing long after I'm dead.
* Doctor Who (Great british Sci-Fi, great acting and can switch from super serious to a bit more light from one instant to the next)
* Battlestar Galactica (Another great Sci-Fi show, can be a bit hit or miss but the latest season has been great)
* Futurama (Better than the Simpsons if you're a little geeky in any way)
* The Simpsons (Until season 8, like has been said...)
* Stargate SG1 (The cast's chemistry made this very enjoyable)
* Babylon 5 (Very well written character driven sci fi)
* House (Dr. House is great)

And many more I can't remember right now...
Adult Swim :-*

Also Simpsons. I'm kinda glad I stopped watching TV, though. I need to watch MST3K Sad
Scrubs (It's a little hit and miss)
Daily Show/Colbert Report (Colbert has actually supplanted Stewart, for me)
South Park (Still a little bit iffy; I don't always like it)
Breaking Bad
The Universe
Sheep in the Big City (If you have never seen it, watch it now; it's a cartoon, but it's better than you think)
I actually still watch the old Pokemon show reruns sometimes. It's cheesy as hell, but I like 'em.
I actually don't really watch much TV. The one exception is Doctor Who. And that's not really TV, cuz I torrent it. And btw, the last two episodes were totallyfuckinawesome.

You know, Hugh Laurie might make a really good Doctor.
Dr. Who
Pushing Daisies
Scrubs
Most all anime (Gurren Lagann and Witch Hunter Robin are my most recent favorites)
Arrested Development
<3 My Name is Earl <3

YESYESYES.

Rocko's Modern Life was good.  Many hidden things.

Haven't seen that Canadian Science show though.
I remember a lot of the shows mentioned, but I really do not watch TV anymore.

Except Antiques Roadshow.  Love me some Antiques Roadshow...

Alphabetised list:

American Dad
Blackadder
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Father Ted
Fawlty Towers
I'm Alan Partridge
Red Dwarf

I rarely find myself rewatching shows that aren't comedic in nature, I'd say the only exceptions would be:

The X-Files
Twin Peaks

I'd like to add that, as far as levels of pretention go, calling out The Simpsons or Family Guy as going downhill in latter series is tantamount to those utter cretins who bring up the fact that they were into huge bands when they were still playing in their garage but now they've sold out they only listen to underground Belgian trance, released exclusively on indie labels that no-one knows about.

What if said band pumps out good music for a few years after selling out, then starts producing utter trash. Id like to point out the example of Limp Bizkit that had some great stuff, then made utter trash, not because they sold out, but it was just BAD music.
OMG I can't believe I forgot this one:

The Boondocks

The dvd's are well worth it. Get 'em, lots of great exclusive content.

I agree entirely (I'm forever lamenting the downfall of most of the early jungle pioneers who now make lowest common denominator trash) but I couldn't think of any better analogy.

I've followed Family Guy since the beginning and been watching The Simpsons as far back as I can remember and I honestly feel that both series are as good now as ever, maybe even favouring the latter seasons when factoing in the lower production values on early episodes. The only point I would concede is that the Simpsons kinda gave up on narrative structure many moons ago but was that really why anyone watched it?
