Heya all.  Been playing with you guys for a while now, especially Peaches, and after being harangued for not joining the forums I finally made time to do so Smile.

Been with a clan called the Grey Wolves (http://www.greywolvesclan.com) for about 6-7 years now.  We started out as a Return to Castle Wolfenstein clan and then morphed into a multi-game clan.  Currently the big game is WoW, but the crew is starting to get back into FPS' with ET:QW and TF2.  The clan was started as an over-30 clan, and is for the most part composed of older, mature gamers, most of us with families.

I'm a high-school math teacher with three young kids, so I tend to play later in the evening Eastern time after they go to bed and after the wife and I spend some time together.  I've played just about every FPS under the sun, from the original Doom onward.  I really enjoy competitive teamwork-based objective-based games.  If it can be with fun, mature players all the better.

Been loving the BRB server.  Lots of fun all-talk with pleasant, funny, competitive guys.  Can't ask for more than that!  I'll be sure to have the GWs add you to their favorites.  We have a server as well, but it's just getting off the ground.

Be seeing y'all in-game!

It should also be added that Chimp's got a good, fair minded head on his shoulders. <3
Glad to have you on the forums.
I thought that if teachers didn't hate video games they get an automatic firing.  I shall report you!

Make sure to try to get into TF Tuesdays tomorrow or Friday Night Fights, both start at 8pm cst, theres a post that goes up in the TF2 section.

Also welcome  ;D
Chimp! Brilliant! You've got some solid grey matter (but then, you are a teacher), and it'll be great having you in here.

Glad to have you on the forums.

Dealing with insane teenagers 5 days a week tends to force you to be on an even keel Smile.

It's either that or Murder One.  And don't think the choice isn't hard some days...
Awesome to have you.

Wuuuut? Think you got the wrong forums. But hi anyway. Big Grin
So it's high school, then? You make me so optimistic about my future. Tongue

We need more parents like you, exanimo. Smile  You wouldn't believe the crap that parents today let their kids get away with.

My parents were like you...when I went to school, the teachers were *allowed* to hit you and were happy to do so if you wanted to be a smartass.  And if my parents found out I got smacked, you better believe it wasn't the teacher that they got mad at.

Grumble, grumble...now you whippersnappers get off my lawn!

I whole heartedly support bringing back nuns with rulers. Speaking of though, my cousin has worked in some inner-city schools teaching and the parents are completely the opposite of soiled baby-boomer parents who believe their children can do no wrong. They love it when a teacher takes the time to give their kids a little more discipline when they might not otherwise be able to.

Wasn't sure what you meant so I went and read your intro post, and then it all made sense.  You poor, poor man.  It's not too late - run!

Hopefully it'll be different out in the Carolinas - I'm not very familiar with the region.  Here in NY it's very urban, very diverse, and the schools have become a glorified daycare center.

Thanks to "No Child Left Behind", a public attitude that pays lip service to education but doesn't want to pay for it, and a country full of parents who want to be their child's "friend", you have a generation of school children that are rude, lazy, combative, and expect everything on a silver platter, and parents who support that kind of attitude.

Don't get me wrong - I'm generalizing.  There are plenty of sweet, smart, hard-working, great kids.  But it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil, and since pubic education is a resource for all, that all are entitled too, you end up being forced to keep kids in the classroom that should just be sent straight to prison ahead of time to speed up the inevitable.

Sadly, you only need a small percentage to totally skew the dynamics of a classroom and if it's even higher than a small percentage (and believe me, in NY it's pretty fucking high) then most of your energies are diverted into keeping the jackasses in line.  It's sad, and a shame, as it robs the good kids of a better education.

Plus, you're on a Fellowship, so that means you get to go to the "best" schools in your area; oh wait, sorry, I mean the absolute shitholes Smile.  It's nice to get the free ride that the Fellowship gives you, but be prepared, as your teaching gig is going to most likely blow.  I had a friend that went through the Fellowship program - he quit on day 5 after being threatened with a gun.  Good times.

It's sad - teaching as a profession has a 5-year attrition rate of 30%, going as high as 50% in low-income areas.  It's a tough job.  You get very little respect from the public, the pay is poor, everyone thinks you never work when in reality you put in far more time that the 9-to-5ers.  I won't lie - it's a tough gig.

Have I scared you yet? Big Grin

Whew - that was quite the rant.  "Gee, that was...ummm...interesting, Chimp."  <everyone sprints away>

And now you guys are adults, and screwing up my world. Just saying. Tongue

I actually don't really have any experience with public school discipline, so I can't say anything.
It's very much the same out here, but I don't think it's all that bad for us. What you find, a lot of the time, is that the middle-class parents will baby their kids by fighting every decision you make in class, and the lower-class parents don't push their kids to do well and so those kids fail and the parents don't give a shit.

The people that you ought to be helping, you can't help because the parents won't let you, and the kids that can fend for themselves get herded around by helicopter parents (you know, they hover around and make sure everything goes according to plan). So fuck this education system, really. Oh, and NC standardized testing wants to eat you alive.

I don't know what it's like in NY, but I'd wager we're one of the few states around that will pressure its teachers to spend five months instructing, in great detail, on how to fill in a bubble. And then the state bitches when the kids get bored and get rowdy.

good to see you made it to the forums Chimp, see you on the server.

HOLY SHIT NO TEXAS!!

Seriously, the standardized testing in Texas is complete bullshit too. They've got tests for most grade levels, and the more students pass, the more funding (heh, not that it's much fuggin' Rick Perry) the school gets, so you get kids in AP junior level classes - AP mind you - and the teachers are still FORCED to teach these kids how to do the most mundane shit. It's fuckin' ridiculous, I want a new country  Sad

Vandamguy

wow.
post gets all serious and shit.
i was going to put up a picture of a chimp throwing shit at somthing/someone. but i found this instead.

Curious George looks fuckin' pissed! OHNOEZ!!
I love you, Vandam.  Seriously.  I OWE U ONE SEXXES.

Heya Zoso, good to see you again as well.

Sounds like you are already in the know, Peaches.  I'm sure you'll do great.

And Fyre, I agree.  While my generation may have had more discpline, we apparently didn't learn shit-all about ethics Sad.  This country is getting economically raped.

Do you guys have a BRB group on Steam?  And is it only for BRB members?
