That's it. Speaks for itself. Wink

Let me know what you think or if you're interested in beta testing or perhaps even contributing to the project because up until this point it's just been me but It's so large that at this point I could easily integrate any map that starts and ends with an elevator. Thanks!
That looks really awesome.

How do you play custom maps in portal though?
Brilliance. That must have taken forever! Some of the rooms look really intricate and challenging. Would love to play test it if you need.

Magic.

Seriously though, there are instructions on how to install custom map packages online, usually packaged with each set of custom maps Tongue

Put me on your list of possible Beta testers, as I'd be more than happy to give it a run and give you feedback.

In the case of Hetzchase you'll just drop all the maps and a text file into your portal/portal/maps folder
then go to where it says "bonus maps" on the portal title screen and Hetzchase will be an option. The custom sounds, models, and textures will all be included in that one drag-and-drop operation as they'll be "packed" into the BSP (Map) files.

Budr

Did everything just taste purple for a second? Seriously, colour me excited. The production value and level of detail apparent in the clips and the ideas about music and non-linearity, everything about the trailer looks awesome.

There's such a lack of good Portal maps (or at least that I've stumbled upon at any rate), if you're still in need of testers, sign me up.
Same here. These maps look really well done!
:o

Good looking stuff! I'd offer to help playtest, but I never had any feedback beyond bugs that I find (ie, no feedback on aesthetics)
Hehe, Ive already play tested some of these  :Smile

Good stuff, looks better every time I see it. As for the trailer, you should record .dem files then convert them to AVIs, the FPS on them was quite choppy at points Sad

Three points

1) If this trailer is meant to be advertising, then SPOILER ALERT.  Looks like you give away too much of too many of the puzzles. Seriously, I want to be crushed by the moving spike wall the first time I see it.

2) Too long.  You could make 5-6 teasers with the amount of quantity and quality you pack into this one.  I'd break it up a bit and use the multiple teasers to potentially get more eyeballs (odds are anyone who sees 1 who likes portal will sit through the whole teaser.  The trick is getting them see at least 1, with multiple teasers you got more shots).

3) I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you have too much talent to be hanging out here.  But thanks for slumming it and boosting our egos.

I am mightily excited about this.

He's right. You should probably throw these at Valve when you are done and ask them what they think.
Yeah I didn't want to watch the video after a little bit to avoid spoilers.  My only hope is it doesn't require too much reflexes, coz' I was really clumsy with Portal c.c'
Wow, some good looking stuff there. Plus it's good to see the first few puzzles from Portal teaser finally realized.

When I get the main machine running I'll gladly sign up for testing this. Smile

Also, what's this then: Tongue

Well the moving spike walls not really that surprising. You kind of expect it from watching the actual portal trailer. I also didn't give away solutions to any of the puzzles as the video's been carefully edited to avoid that. But you are right I should have probably broken it up into several. But I'm lazy and just wanted to make one nice little "Here ya go" treat.

Thank you very much for the feedback, I'll certainly take some of your tips into consideration. ^_^

Also LOL @ ScottyGrayskull. You win. You spotted the easter egg in the trailer. Congrats.

And thanks all for thinking it's good. I personally think it's still pretty cruddy detail-wise and could always use more work, but that's why I am not afraid to put out trailers like this that might spoil things because in the end I know that with each map I produce I learn something and then I apply that to the next map so the level of detail increases over time and since I'm making the whole thing out of order you'll have very very beautiful and challenging aspects strewn all over the place.

I have taken that into consideration. I wanted to, in some ways, make a game that the average HL2 player could pick up and identify with while also delivering that super hard challenge the portal-experts wanted. To accomplish this I made the branching paths vary in the types of puzzles you get. I think the absolute hardest path is probably if you choose to just go through the chambers without diverting on a side-route. Then again I didn't want to make it too challenging either. I wanted to make it a fun game, not a frustrating one. Sadly I know that may turn many players off, though I certainly added in some "ninja" spots that those crazy portal-happy speed players may love. And who knows, maybe I'll put some timed areas in so they can try to solve the puzzles and make records.

Then again it's not like this project has to be the only portal map I make, I suppose. Since this pack has only further educated me in the ways of mapping I'd love to design some custom logos and types of traps and start fresh with a new short series of puzzles.
Heh, just don't take too long getting it exactly the way you want it to be. We don't want to have to wait... Forever... to play it. Wink

Erm... I was trying to be subtle there. Not too subtle, hence the capitalization and italics, but subtle none the less.

Thanks for ruining it for me. :'(
