So, my keyboard died (ms natural pro from like 9 years ago), and I replaced it with a ms natural ergo 4000.

About the same time, the diamondback woot came up, so i replaced my old logitech with that. Since i was upgrading, i hit winders upgrade and installed xp sp3.

Since that, my tf2 is playing like a slideshow.  I can't tell which of the three is the culprit, but I suspect sp3.  What used to be very playable at 1152 is now jerky. I dropped to 1024x and no relief.

I welcome any insights, otherwise I'm in the queue for upgrading cpu/mobo/ram/gfx.

You test any other games for performance?

Try benchmarking Portal, Ep2, and HL2. The former two run the same rendering engine at TF2, the latter is the older version of source, if you have problems with everything, including perhaps another engine if you can test another game. If its just TF2, I would suggest trying to delete all the local content and re downloading it (har har uninstalling.

I'm still on RC1 of SP3 (can't upgrade to final release so I'm stuck until my next clean reinstall) with no problems, so I would suggest the problem lies elsewhere.
I'm holding off on installing Vista sp1 cuz I just have this feeling it's going to break something
How many instructions per second does that mouse do? Mine does 1000 and that can tax a cpu a bit... Keyboard seems unlikely though...

@surf

Vista sp1 works fine here...

You really should do it. SP1 made Vista so much more awesome for me. Especially game performance wise.

hmm, EP2 and portal play fine (or, acceptable on this old rig).

Uninstalling/reinstalling tf2.

Update: reinstalling TF2 seems to half-work. I was in an empty server, was fine.  I went afK and it i got bad video lag, like it was redrawing everything.  I joined a random server and it was fine.

Problem isolated
Is there any news on this, did you get it fixed?

About the same as ^.  Was good enough to play TFT.  I think you might be onto something regarding the cpu overhead of the mouse dpi, but that is hard to isolate as it's just a few fractions of a second of miscontrol in the middle of a firefight. I'ma try plugging the mouse straight to the mobo.

Actually, Wilhelm von Lolstag, I unplugged the mouse from the USB hub it was plugged into (monitor, powered) and into the USB pr0ts directly on the back of the computer.  The ones that come off the mobo.

Sadly, it didn't help.  It still seems to give me a microsecond of mouselag at the most inopppurtune moment, usually CQB against a soldier, so I'm thinking the cpu overhead might be and issue.  I'ma try uninstalling the razer drivers and run naked and see if that helps.
Run it through a USB->PS2 adapter? Not sure how much that kills functionality of fancy mices though c.c'
SP3 fucks alot of stuff up it seems.  I've been avoiding it at work.

also, I would just about never install anything that comes with any mouse or keyboard.

Uninstalled razer drivers and running with just winders drivers.  Seemed imperceptable better, but then i had a bit of stutter again.

Trying this now http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/36988 . I'm thinking SP3 is the culprit, with the knitting needle in the throat.

Ooh. I tried that once. It didn't really make anything better, but campus police gave me strange looks.
