It's really fuckin' hot and I need to eat something because I'm dehydrated and hungry.  And thusly the perfect time to throw up an intro.

I'm Wedge, aka Tycho or Paul, depending how you know me.  I'm... fuck... 22 I think?  And just moved to Portland, hence my absence over the last week.  I've played games for as long as I can remember.  Starting with an NES up until... now I guess, though my only "current" system is my awesome new PC.  I tend to be behind on gaming related things, because I am a cheap ass motherfucker.  I rarely if ever buy games at full retail prices, especially in the last five years or so.  Except in which cases I can steal a game when it comes out, which I have been known to do.  My second hand habits have amassed me a sizable collection of PC and console games up through the PS2/XBox/GC era.  I'm talking on the scale of 100's of games and peripherals total, I'll probably take pictures once I stop being lazy and finish "organizing" it all here.

I grew up on consoles, mostly only played PC games on friend's computers when I was younger.  First "gaming" computer I ever had, was when I was able to get my family to buy a refurbished Dell that had a GeForce MX 420 in it.  For the first time I could now run games requiring that fancy "3d acceleration" on a computer.  Back then I had a lot of aspirations to be a game developer, so many of the games I played were from the burgeoning (on the web) indie gaming scene.  Zombie Smashers X2, Crimsonland, Notrium, Dark Horizons: Lore... and I spent a lot of time playing the Realm Wars demo for the Torque Game Engine, which had a very small obscure community playing their own modded servers of what was functionally a stripped down Tribes 2 based FPS starter kit.

I starting learning to script stuff for my own server, did some work for Dark Horizons later on, then made a couple attempts at my own game/mod that never got past tech demos.  Somewhere in that time there's a fucked up story about how I became a furry and gay, a worthless college degree, probably some rape, and then it ends with me doing an internship stint with Garage Games and then opting to pursue a life with my boyfriend instead of a career, and spending the last year or two working crappy jobs, hanging out on Destructoid, and buying the Urnge Bawks, which got me here.

So yeah.  I play almost every genre of video game, and have loud opinions about most as well.  I tend to be pretty good at the games I play, I think I do okay at TF2.  And to confuse any confusion on the issue, I'm not really a furry.  Anymore.  Unless you're cute.  Or it pisses you off a lot.

I think I just typed something here.  I don't remember exactly what.  I really need to go eat something though.

And now, for something totally different, I'll bring up my class project from Animation 121.  Fear my art skills.

I knew already knew you were a furry, and gay, but still; I think Lifetime has some writer openings, have you ever tried to sell your life story?

+1 for freeman.
You gave up a career in games for your boyfriend? Wow, I'm a bit jealous (would be more so if it was a hot girl though). I've recently developed a 2nd-hand habit as well, I managed to snag something like 40~50 PS2 games in a year working only part-time. Big Grin

Also, ur skillz rival those of Dave. ;D
I was wondering if you had ever been to the Antilles?

Giving or receiving?

+1 for the lulz-worthy animation. Smile
Wow! Working at Garage Games! I mean, I wouldn't know what it's like to work there, maybe it's terrible, but they are sort of a big deal now. That reminds me, for whatever reason I can't even participate in the Fallen Empire: Legions beta...probably FF3..oh well...

Also, Tribes and +1!!!
Hello, furry faggot.

It was the best fucking place ever pretty much.  Got to sit on a computer all day making game demos and could take breaks to play Guitar Hero whenever necessary.  Their "offices" used to be a (plant) nursery or something, so it's got lots of light and a huge warehouse area.  I felt really out of place next to all the talent there though.  I only got in because their original intern choice had to drop out.

And why the heck can't you play the Legions beta?  It's really fun, though obviously very stripped down from Tribes.

Nice intro, Wedgie.

On with the questions:

1) Why did you move to Portland? for a job, for love, or for kicks?

2) Was the job sacrifice for the boyfriend worth it?

3) You seem to have a love/hate relationship with furdom. Give us the 5 cent explaination.

4) Do you still have all your retro consoles duct-taped together?

5) For the losers out there like me, where does your icon come from?

My boyfriend is from here, he likes it.  I think it's pretty nice.

2) Was the job sacrifice for the boyfriend worth it?
I guess.  Having two incomes from shitty jobs is almost as good as one real job anyways.

3) You seem to have a love/hate relationship with furdom. Give us the 5 cent explaination.
The majority I've ever known are creepy scary freaks.  I fucked up a lot in my life being involved with them.  A few are okay though.  Good porn too (well most of it is bad, but y'know).

4) Do you still have all your retro consoles duct-taped together?
Nope, got them all portioned out on my childhood media center, now that I have a place for all my old furniture.

5) For the losers out there like me, where does your icon come from?
Mischief Makers for N64.  Treasure are gods of game development.

Nice! I couldn't play because of Firefox 3's flash issues. I seem to have got it working with a version of Flash 10 from the Adobe Labs, though!!! Now I can check it out!

I heart Wedge Antilles, and somehow I'm finding myself hearting you as well.
