Alright since most of you believed this was a decent idea I am going to make an official post on it.

The premise is simple:  We, as a community, try to make and run a SimCity together.  Each member will get 5 years working with the city before they save it and pass it on to another member.  If someone ruins a city bad enough to where it totally messes things up or just makes it unplayable then that person is kicked off the rotation and we move on.

Also, there will be no cheating with this.  Granted there isn't any specific way I can find out if someone cheated but if I give the city to someone and notice next time I play that our BRB City has an Eifel Tower, Arc De Triumph, and the pryamids in it I am going to think something is fishy.  So I recommend if anyone does feel the need to cheat not to go overboard.

I will be starting off with the first 5 years.  Since I don't know who exactly wants in on this please post here and I will add to the list and set up an order of who will get the city next and so forth.

Oh and causing your own natural disasters will be allowed but like I said if you ruin the city bad enough to where it makes things suck then you are out of the rotation.

Thanks and enjoy...

PS:  All of this will be done through SimCity4 with the SimCity4 Rush hour expansion.

Rotation

Let me know if I forgot someone.  I think thats everyone.
I want in though I still need to learn how to play.  I'll play a bunch tonight.
Don't give it to me.
I'll just burn it to the ground.
me

also, keep the building styles to change every five years, so hopefully we'll have different building styles for each turn. Smile
I'm in, been a while since I've played SC though...
I'm in. I'll work on getting the game over the next few days or so, and will probably have to brush up on it, but I'm in.
Excellent.  I will start my city once I get home from work and then get the rotation set up.  Its going to have an Ocean shore and a river running down the middle.  Of course everyone is allowed to alter the city once it starts.
How big will it be? I think the New York map has two giant tiles.

General tips:

1. As soon as you can, build the large elementary school and the large high school, then adjust their funding with the "?" tool as your city grows.
2. Make your high-tech tax around 5-6%.
3. Avenues are your friend.
4. Highways carry a lot more people than avenues, and you can do a transition thing. Just drag a highway tile into a deadend avenue.
5. You should usually build ground highways, unless something needs to go underneath the highway.
6. Don't even bother with low density residential.
7. Same goes for water towers.
8. Same goes for the large water pump.
9. Coal power plants are cheap, but pollute heavily; put them at the opposite corner of the map from your residential areas.
10. Mass transit, other than passenger rail and buses, is very expensive; don't build anything until you have a pretty big population.
ME!

Sounds fun, though I'll have to look at SimCity 4 some. haven't played since 3000

edit: What's the best way to send these back and forth? Duck thinks mediafire/filefront/etc is too bothersome and unorganized, I say you all get WinSCP and upload them to my server and people can download the latest version from there when it's their turn.

edit edit: If we decide to go with this method, get WinSCP here, then add the following:

Hostname: captainmorgan.mit.edu
Port Number: 22
Username: iamnotfuckduck
Password: ilovefuckduck
File Protocol: SCP

I would hope you all can figure it out from there.
Ahhh...I remember 3000...good times. Smile

I wanted 3000 Unlimited badly. Sad
I really want to join you and fuck with your city, but I won't be able to before the 20th...

It's been a while but I know if you pick the option to generate your "nation" the game offers you a bunch of empty planes to pick from to start your city.  I will be choosing the largest one available to start off with.  Internet has been down for a good 5 hours so now that its back up I will download damon tools (don't know why I don't have it already) and we can get started on this.
I'm still learning to run a city, so push me back a place or two.

Well there she is boys...BRB!Uninstalling City.  Kind of dirty at the moment but thats the way I like my women.  Wait...what?

Besides the state of the environment the city is running pretty well.  I floated a loan, have a Hospital, Large Elementary school and some added water pumps and power plants and the city is still generating money.

And that is where Tragic Hero lives.  It looked a lot nicer before the pollution ruined everything.

So I think I'm going to hand the city off to Versus first since he seems to know the most about SimCity 4.  Just hope he doesn't scold me for the state that BRB city is in.

Also, when you play be sure to make a "Sim" of yourself and move him or her into the city.

EDIT:  I believe the City save file has been uploaded to Ducks site.  Just go into the appropriate folder and grab it and upload it into your region via the in game option.  Easiest way to do this I believe is to copy the city file, go into your my documents/SimCity4/regions folder and put the save file into the "Downloads" folder.  Then when you go into the game start with a custom region, click on the largest tile and import the city.
If I knew where my copy of Simcity 4 was, I would so join in. :-\
You could always just e-mail the file to the next person.  It sounds easier.

I could but then that means I have to be around when Versus is around and get his e-mail and then send it to him.  Despite all the directions, ducks idea actually works very easily.  But if you would rather have it e-mailed to you and such then I guess you tell said person to e-mail it to you.

Updated the city.
Nice.  Good surplus coming in and the city looks a lot nicer.  A bit more New Jersey looking and a lot less Detroit looking.  And my house even looks to be in better condition.
I waited until "Dirty Industry" got to be a reasonable size, then jacked up Dirty Industry's tax rate to 20% ;D

edit: we should do a BRBU region. :3
