Who here has beaten it, and how?
I managed to ascend as a level 20-something chaotic elven wizard. Took me a couple hundred tries. I had a picture around somewhere, but I lost it.
Holy crap you can beat nethack? :o :o :o
Well, it's really only possible with save copying.
nethack++, play it loads at work but I refuse to save copy because I'm stubborn and seeing all the cool ways to die is part of the fun.
"It's the journey that counts not the destination"
<3 Nethack <3
It's what diablo was inspired by and is still a lot deeper than any other hack and slash game I've ever played.
GODDAMNIT! So fucking close. It was completely legitimate too, I had survived all the way through to the bottom and all the way back up to the Plane of Fire. Then I drown in lava. With full health. This game is so cheap.

You are about as bad as my brother with opening and leaving 20 tabs at a time.

Hah, at work I end the day with about 70 tabs open...
This is way too much fun. Still trying to figure out the basic controls though and its scary as hell trying to identify things just by testing htem
I decided I need Nethack on my work computer.
What is everyone's favorite version? I usually play old school ASCII based Nethack but I'm ready for a change and I'm open to graphical versions.

I just use the version that comes with the default download. Looks decent while leaving plenty of stuff to the imagination.
I always preferred the ascii version because it left a lot to your imagination...

I like the default tileset because it at least gives a decent amount of information without having to investigate every time I see a letter.
I play Slash'em. Doppelganger random poly into Chromatic Dragon FTW.
Also, place your bones here.
Damn this felt good.
Oh hey, I saw this on reddit. Totally didn't look at the poster though. Gratz.
