Though I thought it was just a problem with a map I downloaded the other day, every map now is freezing up on me.  I played earlier today with no problems, but no luck now.  The entire game freezes and only half the time I can minimize or end the program.  I have no idea on what to go on, since my PC runs just fine and I'm not sure if it's STEAM in general cause I only have TF2 installed at the moment.

Just need some trouble shooting help to figure out what I can do to get this fixed.
try running portal with the same video settings you have for TF2 since they both use the same version of the Source Engine

If that freezes, its likely your computer, if not then its your TF2 install

Just played a few test chambers of Portal and it seems to work fine as much as I can tell.  Was able to play for abit on Perfect World also, so I'm guessing it's only with TF2.  Should I reinstall it or is there something else to do?

First, try autoconfig in launch options to see if that might fix anything for you. To do that, right click TF2 in your steam games list >> Properties >> Set Launch Options >> put in "-autoconfig" without the quotes. Run the game once this way, and then remove autoconfig

If that doesn't work, try defragging your files and verifying the integrity of game files. To do that, right click TF2 in your steam games list >> Properties >> Local Files >> defrag & verfiy

See if that does anything for you. If none of that works, you might have to reinstall unless someone else has some suggestions. Sad
Can you play any stock maps?  Does the game render any 3D before freezing?  Or is it freezing during load of any map, stock or custom?

If you're suspicious of a custom map, I'd say temporarily shove the maps under a carpet (get them out of maps folder) and try doing Create Server with a stock map.  Probably not helpful suggestion, but I'm still curious as to exactly when your failure is occurring.

Well the four freeze ups have been during custom maps (Is Badwater custom or stock?).  It comes randomly during the matches.  I'll play for a round and then BOOM frozen.  Or I'll barely play for that long and then it might freeze.  Gonna try the defrag and verify to see if that helps.
Nope, Badwater is stock.

Well then make that 2 customs and 1 stock then for freeze ups.  Haven't done a test after the defrag and verify, but you'll know if it works if you see me staying on for longer than 10 minutes on the servers lol

Don't know what is good, but here is what the first tab says.  A few of the blue arrows were going back between checks also.

those numbers are dynomite. but how is it while playing tf2?

can you explain the freezeups a bit better , like 'program not responding' or hard lock , bsod ,

so far the only thing i can think to reccomend is driver updates. but that's what everyone says

The defrag and verify seems to have worked.  Played on two maps earlier with no problems.  The freezeups were just the game totally locking up.  Usually I couldn't do anything, but once or twice I was able to get the task manager up and close TF2 myself, so it seems it was mostly just with the game itself.  And my drivers should be up to date since I just reformatted my PC about a week or two ago.
New bad update.  Things have gone bad.  I'm guessing it's something with my video card, though I'm unsure of what exactly what the problem was.  I was playing Perfect World when the screen started to go all pixely, kinda like what it does when TF2 was freezing, but then I closed it, but then things went bad.  Screen pixelation, weird lines, screen would act like it wasn't plugged in and tehn back on, and a restart didn't fix a thing and the bad pixelation was still there.  Gonna double check connections and everything, but any ideas on what is happening from someone who is actually knowing of tech stuff would be very helpful.

Currently on a laptop while I check on the hardware...Man I can't wait till I get the new PC...
Easiest thing would be to just let it reinstall over night.
Sounds like your video card or something else is in a bad way.
Checking connections didn't help.  The PC seems to be running just fine, but the background and opening XP screen are covered in lines and kinda pixely boxes.  And I just tried opening a webpage and the screen kinda froze alittle, the monitor went black with no signal, something sounded like a fan revving up quickly and then it brought the picture back.  I'm lost at what to do right now since I've never experienced this problem before.  I'm just guessing something may be breaking down?  Video Card maybe? Something worse?

Fucker couldn't wait at least another week or two to crap out on me when I have money to replace stuff? GAH!
Your video card is teh dying, lines and dots across the screen was the last thing I got before it died on me

Son of a bitch...I just got the thing like last year.  512mb Radeon X1900...God that fucks up my budget for some new PC parts.  That was gonna save me like 200 bucks for a new card...
