Be Right Back, Uninstalling

Had a decent turn out last week and I'd really like to see a sizable number of people out this weekend to get some mass unit tactics going. Id like to stick with magriders for another week since maintaining a tank column is fairly simple and straight forward. If enough people are still interested after this week we can move on to more advanced tactics like Gal Drops, Flanking, Gen Drops, and ultimately mixed units.

Some Copy-pasta for people who didn't come out last week

To make sure you don't accidentally speed hack and that the game runs stable, run the launchpad.exe and if necessary planetside.exe in compatibility mode for win98 or XP. If you have an AMD dual core processor, get this timer-fix. And if you have a QUAD CORE processor, when you start the game, alt tab out before you move at all and set the exe to single core affinity.

If you have any points left over I recommend the following
Medium Assault (2 pts)

Any remaining points are yours to spend, since you have a fresh character for the first 7 days you can forget and relearn certs as often as you want, after that point you may forget a cert every 4 hours, or forget everything and that is on a 24 hour timer I believe.

Fun in this game increases exponentially with the more people that join up so I hope to see more of the people that stated they were interested in the initial thread to come out, the game is FREE, but you are restricted to BR6. If you get "suspended" or banned since the trial accounts are loopholes just make another one. Conversely you can spend $20 to pick up the game at direct2drive, which comes with a free month, this removes the restriction on your battlerank.

IMPORTANT READ THIS BEFORE LOGGING IN

The trial accounts are essentially back doors into PS, there is no longer any trial or free play program.

While this method will get you in, you could get randomly suspended for 3 days. The trials/reserves were canceled because of RAMPANT hacking, and I mean really really fucking rampant, because like some of you have found out, you can just make a new account with the same email even and just log right back in. The devs are working on a punk-buster like system to deal with cone-of-fire, stamina, and rate of fire hacks (the three most common). After this they have stated they will be re-enabling the unlimited free-play reserve system. For now however, this is something you just have to deal with if you don't want to pay.

If you are banned within a few minutes of logged in check to make sure you followed the other instructions about dual/quad core compatibility, and that you are running in the proper compatibility mode (if applicable).

Should this happen to you just make another account and log right back in after checking to make sure you did the dual/quad core stuff.

If you BUY the game this will not happen, period, but if you do want to play for free its something you might have to put up with

I have a strong aversion to paying for MMOs. I've played about 5 but have only ever payed for WOW, and that was a huge mistake.

However, this game is a lot of fun in big groups, so I'll be back, under a different name

I think my original account will last until then, guess I can just keep making new ones until it's free.  Hopefully I won't be banned this time.

You mean it's not an MMORPG in a traditional sense :; the "MM" in MMO means Massively Multiplayer...I'm sure you know that, just making a point. Planetside is closer than anything else I've seen to being a real MMOFPS.

Sadly, it really WAS a MMOFPS in beta and for about 2 years after release.  I remember my first time coming over the hill at Gunuku bridge and seing 100s of players in each faction all fighting over a single bridge.  Never going to see numbers like that again, but it is still fun.  I am totally down for this.

I'm not sure if i can make it this Saturday, but I am installed and checking out the trial.  So far, it seems pretty fun and hectic.  Names Greatbacon as always.

That's **HIGHLY** dependent on the certs that you have, also if you are a commander or not, this will determine if you carry a CUD (Command Uplink Device)

On my main I have...

Weapons:
Medium Assault
Anti-Vehicle
Heavy Assault
Elite Assault (Free to 4 Year Vets)

Armor:
Rexo (Free to 5 year vets)

Vehicles:
Armored Assault 1 & 2 (Lightning & Magrider)
Air Support (Galaxy, Liberator, Lodestar, Vulture)

Support:
Engineering
Medical & Advanced Medical

Float/Flavor of the Day:
Ground Support (AMS/Router)

My main is setup for heavy grunting and support, engi/medic/rexo/MA/AV are pretty much standard if you are going to grunt it, HA is optional, but highly recommended. A good rule of thumb is that no matter what kind of character you have, have at least 1 vehicle cert, medium assault, and engineering.

Engineering lets you repair any vehicle you drive in the field and its critical to have. If you don't have MA you don't have much chance in a gun fight, and without a vehicle you will be hoofing it across continents to get to fights, not to mention being extremely vulnerable to being picked off by vehicles.

Agree with HJ, here.  It is obviously very highly dependent on what you have certed.  Here's two of mine:

It should be fairly obvious what this guy does.  He grunts and is equipped to kill anything in the game including BFRs.  That is his job, no pussy-footing around it.  When all I want to do is get up in people's face and kill them, I log him in.  As he has engy, he is also a good gunner.

If you want some inventory loadout examples, I can provide them as well.

Actually I won't be here on Saturday.  Count me out.
