So after 6 months of looking in this shitty economy, I finally received an offer this week and accepted it yesterday. The commute is going to suck ass since I'm likely going to live at home for 1 - 2 years to pay off all of my student debts before I move out. However, I'll just have to deal with it, may not be ideal but its at least something.

The job is with PCI-Energy, a division of Westinghouse, which is in turn owned by Toshiba. They build custom parts for many different kinds of power plants, but they specialize in building Nuclear Reactors. So odds are this is a pretty safe-bet as far as an employer is concerned in this economy.

Starting October 20th Ill be having a lot less free time during the weekdays, however, since it is such a long commute hey are allowing me some flex time as far as when my day starts/ends, and telecommuting as long as I don't have a meeting on that day. So I could always take a 'TF2 Break' if I need to  Tongue
Congrats!  What's your position?

According to Google Maps that's about an hour each way. While it could be worse (in LA I'm pretty certain 2+ hour commutes each way are common) it still sucks. Like you said though, just until you can afford to move out.

Regardless, congrats! Sounds like a pretty good employer too if they're willing to work with you around the commute, which is always a huge bonus. Smile
are they hiring physics majors?

6 months?  dear lord, I'm doomed.
