I was more into King's Quest ;D
Pretty good writeup. I've always loved the SQ games (SQ 1 being one of the first computer games I ever played), with 3 being my personal favourite. Oddly enough I really like 5 (that and one are the only two I was able to beat without a hintbook), and I loved the style of 6 (although a lot of the puzzles were downright nasty).
Never got a chance to play
the fan made game however.

Nope, they just published it. The (original) game was pretty much entirely made by Kevin Ryan, who is now a mountain hermit.
