100 books of ALL TIME

Why would harry potter be on that list at all...
what no bible!?!!?!?

lols
Granted you have to acknowledge Harry Potter due to its massive popularity but hell throw it in the 80s or 70s.  No way in hell does a book that can be read and comprehended in a day deserve to be number 1

while i agree potter is shit, why does a book being easy to read and understand make it shit?
bit dissapointed you cant brag to people that you read and understood it?

I don't think he means that literally, but I think he means that a good book, one worthy of the list, should make you think for time to come. Its not something you read then put down and never think about it again, it should be a thought provoking experience that makes you at least 'think about it' for some time to come.

Popularity != good book

Same goes true for movies, I doubt the highest grossing summer blockbusters would ever compare to things like Gone With the Wind, Citizen Kane, or Casablanca.
Eragon should not be on that list and I read it and enjoyed it.
Fuck Twilight.  Vampires used to be cool.  Now they're the new Emos.

There are plenty of reasons I would throw it in, least of which is the story. Certainly not so high up, but it definitely deserves a spot. Love it or hate it the Potter series has actually done A LOT to encourage kids to read again, it's done a lot to make larger novels (especially for kids) profitable again; hell, Rowling has done a lot to revive what some authors thought was a dying genre (that being general fiction for your average joe). A lot of the authors in a science fiction writers club here hate the writing, but certainly appreciate what Rowling has done for the industry.

But yea, the list sort of sucks... But hey, it's what the people voted for... Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them are so high up simply because of the name. People vote for shit they don't know all the time, voting for reputation instead of what they know.
Eragon and Eldest were boring, and i enjoyed reading all 7 Harry Potter books, even if they are easy, simple, and with the worst ending ever, the thing that makes a book great isn't how much complicated it is, or how many lessons for your life it give you. I like it just because they are FUN :3

Also, no LAtin american writer D:? WHERE THE FUCK IS GABRIEL GARCIA MARQUEZ!?

You would enjoy this list of the top 100 science fiction books of all time.

I rather like Harry Potter Sad They may not be the best books, but they're certainly some of my favorites :3

85 or something like that: Love in the Time of Cholera/Amor en el Tiempo de la Choler

The problem with this list isn't that the books are where they are (exception: Twilight. Fuckers.), it's that people seem to have mistaken "best" for "what you liked most". Listen, just because you liked Harry Potter doesn't make it a good book, even though enjoyability and accessibility is a HUGE part of a good book, and the best, most provocative book in the world doesn't mean shit if you can't read it and enjoy it.

There is very little subject matter of weight and significance in... probably 75% of that list, and the best books I've ever read are all the way at the bottom because shite books like HP and Twilight that explore emotion and perception only in the smallest, most marginalized cases are the books that get read most widely these days. And people enjoy them, why? Because these books don't force them to think about ANYTHING.
oh..

i will still rage about being #85

Also, that is the only one that was made a movie on the US >_>... I see what he did there

100 years of Solitude is way better, but why it isn't on the List? becasue he watched the goddamn move >_>

How can it be the top 100 books of all time when they only polled people in 2008? *facepalm*

Just trying to make a point about movies, this list reads like they would list just the 'most popular' books rather then those that were the most thought provoking
