Ive got a 5 day weekend coming up and im just getting out of a relationship with a girl that was pretty important to me. Anybody have any suggestions on what I should go out and try?

Anybody wanna give their opinion on Guinness to me?

strongbow if your cheap.
Don't listen to anything Dave says.
Beer thread is your friend.  Also the Samuel Tadcaster Oatmeal Stout exanimo recommended was good and reminded me of a mild Guinness.  Guinness is a pretty strong beer you have to like your beer thick and bitter.  Not a good getting drunk beer IMO.  Although a friend made Guinness floats a while ago that were amazing.

I actually had a big beer discussion this weekend with a friend who loves beer and we agreed that Hoegaarden and Blue Moon were the best safe beers out there.  Most good beer often has a quirk that can make it hit or miss: some beer you have to age or it will be too strong or something, some beer has a very strong specific flavor you could love or hate, some beer is really powerful and if you aren't used to it you will hate it, some beer you end up hating because the name makes you think it tastes other than it should (chocolate stout) but is actually good if you didn't buy it thinking mmm chocolate beer.  Hoegaarden and Blue Moon are mild beers that are almost universally fantastic and are much better staple beers than bud and coors and all that other crap.
Guinness is without a doubt one of my favorite beers (at least in the mainstream).

If you like dark beers try taddy porter and San Francisco's Anchor Porter... two of the best in the country imo... Also Anchor's steam beer is something neat that most people havent had... a lager yeast brewed at warmer temps... makes an interesting smooth ale.

I agree with surf though... there are SO many beers with many different little "quirks."  I tend to stay away from many of the added fruits and spices (sam octoberfest for example..)  Best bet is definately citrus (blue moon is orage aka still good) or some of the lime/lemon flaovers... I'd def find some local brewaries that are on tap at most places around you.. usually means they are pretty good.

oh and btw...if you havent had an irish car bomb... get one... it's worth the experience at least, but it's def my favorite bar drink.

/end rant
Read up on the beer thread, the girl will probably want mixed drinks so Id go out and buy a martini shaker, make yourself look all sophisticated
Used to like blue moon until all the "trendies" started to order them at the bar with the orange wedge and everything.  If you want to be exotic I would go with Sapporo

Stop skimming, just got out of a relationship.

Although this brings up a good point good beer has more alcohol content so keep that in mind.  Alcohol poisoning is not fun.  My friend had trouble with that when he came down to visit because in Oklahoma all beer has to have 3.2% max.

Almost Even Thirds of Whiskey, Sweet & Sour Mix, and Club Soda, add splash of bitters.  A little more Whiskey a little less club soda.

Hendricks Gin is fantastic, especially in a martini.

Knob Creek is a great bourbon and will erase your mind if you drink too much of it.

If you're going the Scotch route you might as well spoil yourself with a bottl of The Glenlivet:
