I have a 400-450w (280w?) PSU. I have an 8800GT, random motherboard, random seagate HDD.

I want to buy an 89w processor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6819103272

Do I need a better PSU? Or could I hook up a seperate PSU that powers the proc./video card alone?
That should be enough.

My 250 watt could power my computer and 8400 gs.

Go for  it.

you're an idiot. 8400 GS != 8800 GT. (If you made that comment before Cbreeze ammended his PSU's specs, sorry for calling you an idiot Smile )

While I'm not going to out and out say your system won't run, with a 280W PSU, you're pushing it, especially if it's some random rinky-dink PSU instead of something decent. While PSU's for GPU's exist, they're expensive and generally overpowered for what you would need. I would suggest just saving up a bit and getting a >500W PSU to save yourself the trouble, as you run the risk of damaging parts if you try to run a system underpowered.

For reference, the max power consumption of an 8800GT is 105W, nvidia suggests a minimum power supply of 400W.

I was talking to my brother tonight about it and he suggested I get another PSU as well. I found a 550w that I am going to buy with the proc in a week. I am kinda pissed because when I bought the damn system Dell specifically told me it was a 400w PSU and I go and look today and it's a fucking 280w. Mother fuckin' cheap asses.

It'd be better in the long run, because not running with full power is probably straining the card. Fuckin' Dell. I found out the case Dell gave me is a BTX. Mother fuckin' Dell.
Ohi, don't just buy PSUs haphazardly. If you're going to actually invest money into it, make sure it's worth it, especially with the newer gen of tech requiring better PSUs. (How the fuck you were running a system with an 8800 on a 280W I'll never know)

What PSU did you find, and whut are amps on 12v rails? Like you said, putting strain on the card is no good at all, so make sure you're adequately powering your system. Big Grin
PSUs, like an e-penis, can never be too big, I always go for something slightly higher than what I would need just to be safe

Well if they don't blend they can just resell them, also uncut diamonds or industrial grade ones are a lot less expensive than cut gemstones and also just as strong

Did they ever actually do the crowbar? I remember they were going to, but then did I think some cell phones instead.

Well that depends, is Gordon Freeman holding the crowbar, this is a critical point
Will it blend? - Mice
I found this nice and cheap one.

I figured it was enough, but considering I need a BTX these are my only choices...http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...SU&x=0&y=0

I know what my wattage was.

My 250 watt psu powered my 300 watt card and the rest of my system, that's what I was trying to point out.
