Be Right Back, Uninstalling

So as some people might know I'm the guy who is supposed to build the BRBu website.

I was actually planning to have an early version up for testing as a christmas present to this community but due to life being very busy and me being ill as hell for most of the last week this hasn't happened. Now that I'm actually working on it I'm wondering what you people want to see in the website. This is all about features and not about the design as the design will have to keep all the features in mind. So I'm asking the community: What do you want to see, feature wise, in the website.

I will update this list with stuff I see as useful and feasible.

Will have in the initial version:

• Threaded comments
  
• User profiles
  
• Articles
  
• RSS feeds
  
• BBcode or another comment/article markup language
  
• Avatar uploads
  
• Article picture uploads/resizing
  

Might be in the initial version (else it will have this in later versions):

• WYSIWYG comments/article editor
  
• Event agenda
  
• Timezone calculation
  
• Article submission from non-contributors
  
• Podcast support
  

Will have in further versions:

• Friends system
  
• Personalised Front Page
  
• Multiple themes
  
• Birthday agenda
  
• Location maps of community members
  
• Integration of forum/site user database
  

So, what else do you want to see?

Also, this will be all written from scratch because it gives me more freedom and flexibility than using an already existing system. This will give us a truly unique site instead of yet another wordpress site...

Is this replacing the forum, or is the forum going to be part of it?

I wish vB licenses cost less. :<

Its a front page that will allow news/articles

A face for the community rather than just a log in box for the forums

It'll have a downloads section right?

So if we have a song we want to share or something, we can upload it. OR, we could post the Brb cast episodes there.

Well, except two suggestions (video embedding and podcast support) this thread seemed to be totally useless...

To make it clear, the site won't be a dumping grounds for every little thing but will be a place to write articles, promote events and hopefully review games and mods... Original content will be very much appreciated but don't think you can put pirated material in a dumping ground just to share it, there are enough ways of doing that already...

Seems to me that this is the fundamental point for now. The video game website market is stupidly over-saturated and last time the idea of content was brought up people were disagreeing about which direction to take. As far as I'm concerned, there is no room even for reviews at the moment. Other places have got that covered and then some. The only viable option for articles would be to put up pure opinion pieces and maybe anecdotal shit in the hope that the idiosyncrasies of the community are noticeable enough to stand out from the crowd. Quibbling over minor features feels like jumping the gun at the moment.

Agreed but with Reviews I meant mostly mod-reviews and reviews of games we bought. The mod-reviews would be something we do often but the other kind of reviews wouldn't...
