I vote for kicking out all useful members and see what happens
I stand by my timer query idea that pokes lurkers into intro-posting.
Just either A> clear out all accounts that haven't been logged in or haven't shown activity for a certain period of time, or B> just ignoring them.
my mom always told me to ignore strangers and they would just go away.

Well, the vast majority of members of most websites aren't active, if they even visit the site anymore. Destructoid for example boasts over 10,000 members, yet only 500 of them are visibly active.
