Tonight, come out for the return of Mod Nights, in an on going effort to re-expand the games were playing, I'm going to try to revive mod Thursdays. The one major difference is the duration of the mods, unless a mod is so utterly broken or so shitty that its unplayable, its going to stay up for a month (or longer if its made of win). I apologize if this is on too short of notice.

The first mod I've chosen to put up is one we have not played before, Empires, its a combo RTS/FPS. If you've played Marines in natural selection, it should feel natural. On each team one person becomes the 'commander' and gets an overhead RTS style view of the battlefield. They put down structures, place weapons, ect. The rest of the team plays the role of the units and mans the tanks/guns/buildings.

Our server is 24 man and unpassworded, this is relatively small compared to the two main empires servers that ever have people in them that are 44 - 50 slot servers. Since the server is unpassworded, slots are on a first come, first serve basis.

Currently the server is running version 2.2, but I will upgrade this to 2.22 when I get home, so please make sure you download empires 2.22 and not the old 2.2 version.


To anyone who wants to know why I'm not passwording this, historically we've never been able to fill a 20+ man mod server, on any of the nights. We came close on a few ship nights, but that's about it. In an effort to bring more people into the community, anyone playing the mod will be able to join in on the fun. Its also your incentive to show up on time and with the proper files, come late and the server just might be full.

I'll be there. I think not passwording it is a good idea.

Is the server gonna stay up all the time, or just Thursday evenings? I think it would be cool if it stayed up throughout the month.

It will be up all the time until we decide to change the mod to something else, so if you happen to really like it and feel an itch to play you can jump in any time

also, 2.2 is not the latest version. 2.22 is. So before I patch up, which version will be running?

I hope it's been updated since the early version I played.  Still, it had potential and I was good at the sniping.
I'll see if we can't 2drake OS and down maly fast.  I'll probably be late.

Just played it for about fifteen minutes. It's complex, and it's very hard to kill anyone.  :-\

I'll probably still be there later, unless something comes up.
Ugh, this game feels like one of those things where they have all these grand ideas for an epic game, and expect the gameplay to just magically work when they put them all there.  And so you end up with tons of functionality wrapped around a crap game that's not actually any fun to play.  Just because maps in an RTS are all flat and boring, doesn't mean they're going to be magically be entertaining once you let people control the units.
This is a good game, but people need to REPAIR THE GODDAMN TURRETS.  Seriously if I have to play commander for this game any more I'm going to have a heart attack at ago 30.  Even the smallest mistake can piss you the fuck off.  I prefer units that obey all my commands.

All that said, it reminded me of what I liked about NS: territory control, resource control, smart upgrading strats, and cooperative soldiers, fun. Somewhat greater investment required than your average mod, but I think it is worth it if you like co-operative teamplay that goes beyond team deathmatch.

4. When we play mods and fill up a server, we can and will get random hardcore lovers of that mod who join our server. Remember to be welcoming and extend and invite to brb.u. Unless they are dicks, we have enough dicks already.

Couldn't make it because we had lots of practice and a match tonight, but I'm totally down for playing it this weekend if anyone gets bored. :3
