If you are playing any game other than TF2 please lurk in the appropriate room in our vent even if you plan on using in game voice communication.  This is so it is the easiest to get people in on any games in progress.

Some examples.  I want to play planetside but only if I can team up with some people.  Instead of sending out messages to 20 people I can just pop in vent and see who is playing.  Then I can bug people to play.  Or if I want to get some L4D going I can pop in that room and find out if there are any open slots and where to join before I start spamming messages.

This way we can hook the new people into our games which should make them more fun and also so we can cut down on the unnecessary message spam.
Sorry, but I'm not going to sit in ventrilo if I'm not actually playing a game  :-\

Id rather send messages to people I know play that particular game asking if they want to join up

I agree.

I personally hate vent. My G15 seems to fuck with its settings and re-sets them all as soon as I start a game; I'm sure it could be fixed but I can't be assed as most games I want to play have in-game voice already.

I think steam has an "invite friends to game" function for a reason; also, otherwise you might just want to try organizing something ahead of time for planetside like Caff does.
If you wanna play a game, you'll have to let me know with a Steam message.  Idling in vent only works when no one else is in the channel.

Also we do have a BRB, Planetside Steam group.  Join and I'll give you admin.  You can just make an announcement every time you're playing.

which is why i've made a 'quiet room' channel in the first place
Vent has limited slots.

Idling might get in the way of people who want to use it for realz.
100 slots, but still limited. :Smile

ya i signed up for a 20 or 30 slot, can't remember. in the control panel it says there's 100 slots though, but i can't confirm since we've never filled the vent to begin with.
It's a request to help new people are people looking for a game to get in the servers with us.  Also I bolded the part that some seemed to have missed.  If you are playing a game and want to idle in vent to help others join you then it would be much appreciated.

Basically I wanted to post this because it is exceptionally easy to find out if people are playing PlanetSide and to meet up with them thanks to vent and I thought that same thing can help people with other games that aren't easy to check like TF2 is.

I think we almost hit 30 a few times during a heated Planetside night and some competitive event duck was doing

Edit: Response to Surf

That seems fine for non-steam games such as PS/Starcraft, if you want to make it a point to do the same for steam games feel free

I have a big friends list but most people do not, this request is to help them as we try to be a welcoming community plus it helps for games that aren't through steam.

Also although we do have a gaming calendar this community has always been about spontaneous games.  It would be nice if people can pop into vent to see if anyone started anything up they might want to play instead of having to hunt down people to see if things are going on.

Again this is just a request no one is forced to do anything, but it's something I'm going to try to do for these reasons.  TD pays for it we might as well use it.  Thanks TD

The only steam game I can think of it would be useful for is L4D because of the small server sizes (for spillover outside our server).  But if we started using it more it could be a valuable tool to get population up in any games we play that aren't being played on brbu servers.
Surf is right. I uaully pop into vent to see if Ps is going down, cause that's how I am used to it, thanks to WoW
