Hey all! So I finally got off my ass and did some of the things I said I was going to do for awhile now. Yay!

To start off I've changed the registration message and welcome email people see when registering to the site. No big changes really, just made them a bit more personal and related to the site/community, and in the welcome email I encourage the user to make an introduction post.

Another change that'll affect mostly new users is that we now are using reCAPTCHA. This will replace the current visual verification system as more robust way to prevent spam accounts. In addition to that I added a tool that'll help admins (well... me I suppose) more easily identify and remove current spam members.

You might be wondering when something that you actually care about (ie: something that affects you) will be mentioned. Well, after months of putting it off I finally added video embedding. It's a pretty robust tool, allowing almost 200 different sites. I have restricted it to one embed per post though, so keep that in mind. One very nice thing about this tool is that it automatically handles the embedding for you. You should just be able to paste the url as you always have and it'll handle the rest. Smile

There are some more things I hope to tackle over this week, so stay tuned. If you encounter any problems with these changes please let me know either here or via PM. Big Grin
I love you so much right now scotty.
Can individuals get the ability to turn off video embedding for themselves?

As far as I know there is no such ability. However, if flash stuff bugs you I'd recommend some sort of flash blocking plugin. There's one for Firefox called Flashblock, and it works great for me. Instead of the flash loading (even things like background flash) you get an area indicating there is a flash app you can load, and you click on the area to load it. Pretty simple. Smile

Has hell frozen over? Pigs fly? I'm checking my vitals to see if I'm still alive.
After I'm done throwing up blood I'll celebrate.

I fully support the reCAPTCHA add. I'm all for old books.

Very nice nonethless....
I think I could make much more productive use of an actual <embed> tag.
