My 18th birthday is coming up rather soon (April 12th) and as my mother is going to the only major town in the province, she has asked me what I want. I believe I have narrowed it down to either a 80 GB Zune or a 120 GB ipod. But I can't just decide, any opinions here guys?

And the white earbuds let people know you are cool.

132 toaster strudels.  In that comes 148 icing packs.

The choice is yours.

Simple, you eat the 148 icing packs, cause that's what people buy them for anyway
iPod, although you missed out on the 160 when they still made it Wink
I would go with the zune, simply because i wouldn't put myself under the category of an ipod user.

I kinda like the new zunes regardless of my bias though.

I've been a ipod user for 6 years i guess. I had the high end 40gb 3G, and when I died I didn't even hesitate to replace it with the 160gb. Honestly, the UI in the 160GB is horrible. No song details when the backlight shuts down, navigating between menu levels is noticeably slow and laggy, the current touch wheel is much less sensitive and responsive - taking longer to scroll through.

I've been, and like being, a apple supporter. But with their continued market dominance they've begun to slip and phone it in on the usability front. Don't even get me started on the "touch" models - not having dedicated buttons that your fingers can find to pause, forward, rewind buttons is atrocious.

I don't know what's hot from other manufacturers, but I wish I would have shopped around more before getting my 160gb.

God help me I'm agreeing with a furry.
Get the Zune- I'm a zune user and prefer the Zune's navigation and software to iPods.  I will admit iPod's got it easily beat on available video content and accessories though.  It's a matter of preference, really.
Anti-iPodfags are just as bad as iPodfags.
its called a fucking ghetto blaster.

I had a bad experience with mine. Third party case with a metal clip bent the back of it. Apple wouldn't do anything to fix it, even tho it fucked up the player (pushed up against the HDD :<.) It lasted less than a year.

I've had my Zen over two-three years, and still works fab.
It's not that I don't like Apple iPods, its just that people look at the iPod like it is the only MP3 player. Also because it's become more of a status symbol than anything. if i didnt go into an electronics store and see 'iPods/MP3 players' instead of just 'MP3 players' i wouldn't dislike them so much.

-edit-
sorry to derail the thread, but i guess im giving my opinion on iPods
As much as I dislike Apple for selling products by pushing an image, I have to say that've earned their reputation, at least as far as mp3 players go. I've owned Creative, Sony, Samsung, and iRiver players, as well as borrowed a Zune from a friend for a month. None of them compare to the iPod I have currently, though I bought a refurbished iPod Video (I abhor touchscreens)

I just bought a Creative Zen Mozaic 8gb for 50 bucks around christmas
have never had a problem with it yet. fits in that little pocket on my jeans that nothing else goes into and its got an external speaker
show me an ipod that does that.
also, comparing prices for an ipod to anything else, they are at least 20 dollars more on most models, if not more..

I've had my Zen Photo for 4-5 years now.

Also, iPods, at least a couple years ago, had inferior sound quality to most other name brands on the market, especially in the bass department. I fucking love drum and bass music. :o
