so, chooly's ps2 is being bad >:O. it makes noises when it tries to read a disc, and when it does that, then stuff won't load. for example, I'll be playing persona 3, and when I change areas, the ps2 will make noises and the loading screen will be there for generally at least a minute, and about half of the time (i.e. every time it attempts to load something) then it simply won't load at all and will stay at the loading screen. for about an hour last night, the ps2 would not even go beyond the generic ps2 browser. mission suggested I use some canned air on it. I didn't have any on hand, so I blew into it, and the situation improved a bit. this afternoon, I bought some canned air and used it on pretty much everything, including the inside of the ps2. it worked quickly and flawlessly for about five minutes, then it started acting up again, and the canned air didn't help this time.
If you have one of those optical lens cleaners use that, it might help. They are like $10 at Wal-Mart.
Clean the lens, carefully.

If that doesn't work, turn your ps2 upside down.  One of those ps1 fixes that i can't get out of my head.
Do not buy ps2s from chooly.

harsh.

Cleaning the lens would be a good idea, but I remember there was something odd about the laser, where it would get knocked out of alignment somehow (or just via long term use) and could be reset manually by poking it. I'd google it and find an article on it, but the web filter at this customer site is super strict.
They are lowering the price to $99 in like less than a month...

Failing that, pop her open and clean the laser with a cloth used for cleaning camera lenses and some 99% Rubbing Alcohol. And just dust the insides in general. I fixed a friends PS2 that way, and I fixed a PS1 by re-lubricating the gears inside, which you might also want to consider doing.
