Yeah um... no.  I hadn't been paying attention to this because I wasn't really interested, and now that I see you play as a Bid Daddy, I'm even less interested.  So far it gives the impression they'll be going for a survival horror thing punctuated with big actiony battles.  And I'm gonna guess the already severely reduced RPG content and open level/combat design from Bioshock is probably going to be all but gone.  Until they show anything contrary to that, I'm not expecting much.

I dont think thats you being a Mr.Bubbles
I think its just the screw weapon that they have.
I can see where being a big daddy could fit in the storyline but it seems to be pretty limiting.  I mean aren't big daddies supposed to be pretty brainless?  Maybe you have to put on the suit to protect something and by the end you turn into a full big daddy and some plucky outsider comes in and kills you.

It is a prequel right?

No, you are in the big daddy suit, its pretty clear from the first part, no only are you fine underwater, but the footfall noises were the big daddy. It might be good, I'm not holding my breath, but Bioshock was palatable, but not as good as system shock 2.

And this is pretty clearly a sequel Surf, if you remember from the end of Bioshock the main character basically goes through the process to become a big daddy, so its likely that this game assumes the "good" ending and you return to rapture for some reason.

I for one, would like to see a game assume the previous one had a 'bad' ending (if there were multiple ones)
Or they could be really awesome and divide it up into 2 games where you play both endings.  I wonder how hard that would be if you used all the same maps, objects, etc and just rewrote the events and script?
Looks like more of the same.  Which isn't nessicarily a bad thing assuming:

1.  There's more of an RPG nature to the game... not nessicarly *stats* but as far as customizing and play progression, and having "roles" you adapt.  And the choices that you make are actually you know... meaningful instead of it being "Ohhh you decided to take the girl's life... here's some arbitrary reward that doesn't mean anything and if you played good you would have actually gotten more reward!"

2.  Have it be much more open ended of an environement.  Bioshock was linear but had a lot of wiggle room in it's objectives... so I kind of felt slightly open ended but really wasn't.  It would be cool if this actually WAS open ended to a point.

3.  To not have a shitty ass ending third of the game.

4.  Just more depth in the choices/combat/enemies/gameplay in general.

You're not missing much, its not like I spoiled a game that had an amazing ending, for the most part like KorJax said, the ending 33% of the game was donkey nuts.

Odds are though, this game is going to do the exact opposite of all those points =/.
I was honestly hoping for a new environment this time, so I'm about 70% disinterested in the game now.
Wow, and I thought GameInformer was bottom bin for actual gaming news. Bioshock 2 puts you in the role of a Big Daddy in Rapture after the "event" (being the first game). They're going to be putting more emphasis on actual horror, and being as you're a Big Daddy, that's hard, so they introduced the "Big Sister". I honestly don't feel like finding the magazine, but long story short what they're talking about adding to the game sounded pretty badass, and throwing it back towards the horror genre really made my day.

Also, at the risk of sounding like a dick... if you haven't played a game that was released over a year and a half ago by now then you clearly don't care enough about the story to complain about spoilers. Tongue

Actually, that might not be so bad. My big gripe with Bioshock was that it was a slow, plodding, and frankly boring FPS game. If they made it more about horror-based gameplay those issues wouldn't be such a big deal.

It's kinda hard to be horror-based when you're a giant lumbering guy with a drill for a hand.  You are the biggest and most badass thing in all of Rapture, unless megadaddies get introduced.
They did an interview in Gameinformer where they explain EVERYTHING. So if you really bother throwing an opinion around without doing the approprate research then you probably shouldn't play it.

Big Sister = megabigdaddy. I believe that the interview cbre88x and I are talking about was the latest gameinformer issue, just google Gameinformer Bioshock 2 or something.
This brings out a little bit of hope in me:

Hopefully if all goes well all my gripes with the first game will be fixed.

Though I seriously doubt they will be able to capture that "majesty" of player's first expereince of Rapture... because simply put everyone already knows what it looks like.
