This deserves a thread.

I'm strangely excited for it, considering the fact that except for TOS, which I watched quite a bit of a few years ago, I've only seen a few episodes. It's been a while since we've had a big cool space opera. (BSG doesn't count cuz it was so fucking grim and "dramatic")
It's getting pretty rave reviews on rottentomatoes so far.

Only problem: I've only seen Star Trek II. I don't know any of the back story or whatever. So I hope this film figures out I'm retarded and tells me the story.
This thread needs to end.  There won't be any Leonard Nimoy or George Takei so  it isn't real ST.  Oh and btw, BSG was amazing and will always hold a special place in my heart.
I will never be able to see him but anything except Sylar.

Well, I suppose this is as good a time as any for me to actually learn what the hell's going on.  I demand they scream "Kahn!" at some point in the movie though, or I'll declare it fail.

This film is the back story.

You know I was thinking about it today.  Everyone raves about star trek because of how it's some of the "hardest" sci-fi ever mad in TV form, but the originals were camp as hell.  It had William Shatner in it for god sakes.  So the people complaining about this movie butchering it don't have a leg to stand on IMO.

Now if they try and replace mah Patrick Stewart there will be words.

Trekkies Bash New Star Trek Film As 'Fun, Watchable'

just because it's a fake news network doesn't make it any less true

I couldn't agree with you more, Surf!
yeah, but maybe being slightly too cerebral and filled with boring space fights is what made star trek what it is.  making the action something you can actually stand to look at defeats the point a little.

Are you kidding?  Who the hell says that?  It was a misogynist, a frustrated doctor, and a living android fighting evil space gas and hanging out with scantily clad alien women.  The funny part is that early TNG was actually very similar to a lot of the old Star Trek in the campiness.
