New Jedi is actually the springboard series, they made many, many changes to facilitate better lore/story expansion. I'll agree the Vong seemed awkward at first, but when they were developed to the point of explaining what they truly were, the series took on a decidedly more philosophica(and thusly enjoyable)l feeling.

Don't say that... it was so expensive when I was younger to keep buying the damned books... and I stopped at the NJO crap too, but if you say it's worth it I might have to get into it.

I read pretty much all the new Star Wars books back when I was 12 or so. Thinking back, most of them weren't very good.

Plowed through The Sirens of Titan yesterday and today. It was good. My first Vonnegut, embarrassingly enough.
Back to The Wapshot Chronicle now. It's annoying because I love Cheever's prose, but I can't seem to get into the story. Also, although I generally love description, he goes way overboard with it. I'm going to finish it though, and try to find a collection of his short stories next. I've heard that that is what he does best.

I hated Sirens of Titan. It's a good book and all, but it's so incredibly depressing.Â

I read Larry Niven's Ringworld a while back. I really disliked it.
It has a lot of hype, yet I found the characters to be one-dimensional and boring.
The book is full of cliches and technical errors.

I'm reading Love + Sex with Robots. It's an interesting nonfiction essay of sorts about the evolution of human relationships and how eventually robots will become acceptable romantic partners. Pretty interesting, but its so info-dense that you can't just sit and read hundreds of pages at once :/

I just finished reading the third "The Twelve Kingdoms Book" entitled "The Vast Spread of the Seas" Glad they're finally bringing these books over here. They're really quite Japanese though in many respects
 Rather enjoyable fantasy books. Overly quick reads for me though (only like 300 pages or so I think)
