I have Christmas shopping to do for my dad, and don't have a good idea of what to get him, apart from it has to relate to coffee. What coffee item should I buy him that is between $10 and $30?

French Press, they make the best coffee

Get a cheap(er) one a little bag of fresh ground coffee.

I actually like moka pots better, and they actually make decent espresso! If he's just a casual coffee drinker and don't care for espresso, then a french press is really nice.

The place I go to uses these for brew coffees - http://www.chemexcoffeemaker.com/

They also use science to properly brew so 20% of the coffee matter is dissolved into the water. Or some bullshit. I don't know my coffee place takes coffee very seriously.

Was the chemist's name Gale Bedecker?

I was wrong. I misread something somewhere lol.

@at0m, I dunno, I just keep rinsing and re-using my paper aeropress filters. one is usually good for 15 or more brews.

Re: question for _________ - KarthXLR - 03-07-2014

Bottled, tap, or filtered water? Why?

Re: - at0m - 03-07-2014

Filtered, because it tastes the best

Re: question for _________ - Greatbacon - 03-07-2014

Tap because I'm lazy.  Unless i'm in Florida, where the water tastes like sulfur.

Re: question for _________ - Dr. Zaius - 03-07-2014

This is fun. Observe.

The bottle on the left is a regular bottle of purified water. The bottle on the right is Minot ND tap water. Minot's tap water is the single most disgusting water source I've ever come in contact with. There's a youtube vid of a guy literally lighting the gases in the water on fire .

I swear by bottled water, or filtered if I'm around it but I don't own any filters and here with this type of water it'd be pointless. The majority of bottled water we get here comes from Illinois, so I'm happy to support home yo. Chicago tap water wasn't even that bad imo.

Although to be fair, I've been to Fargo and their tap is delicious.

edit: and i realize the irony of using Nestle pure life in my example when it's from greenwood IN.

Re: question for _________ - A. Crow - 03-07-2014

Bottled, in a woodford reserve bottle.

Also SHRAMPS.

Re: question for _________ - kaese - 03-07-2014

filtered or tap
bottled is so wasteful

Re: question for _________ - Mission Difficult - 03-07-2014

When I moved to LA one of my first purchases was a reverse osmosis water filter. Tap water out here is disgusting.

Re: question for _________ - Elder - 03-07-2014

welcome to the mismanagement of drinking water. Where it tastes like shit because thats whats in it

Re: question for _________ - Evil Cheese - 03-07-2014

The water tastes pretty awful here just outside of DC too. I use a Brita filter which helps most of the time.

Re: question for _________ - Neptune - 03-07-2014

Penn and Teller's Bullshit! did a half an episode on bottled water.  On average, it's the same as tap water.  Except that you waste a bottle.

Re: question for _________ - rumbot - 03-07-2014

Filtered the tap most of the places I've lived. Though I do know some excellent places in this land where the straight tap is so choice.
