Ok, so next time I have a question I just won't post it in the questions thread?

Excellent logic.

Maybe they used better materials that are more expensive than what is needed for the average one.

Do you have any useful information to offer me on the topic or are you going to shitpost all day? You have yet to answer my original question in any meaningful way. If you're doing the latter, I suggest finding something better to do with your time.

ok so this is my first summer without any sort of cooling what-so-ever. Today it was 88 in the house and by-god it is miserable. I'm looking up small DIY air-conditioners (as we're only here for another few months), does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

check the return policies at wal-mart, home-depot, etc.

if wal-mart has a 30 day return policy no questions asked, there you have 25 days of AC.

rinse, repeat.

Do bounce between chains and not just wal-mart locations.

Don't forget if you get a "portable Air Conditioner" if it does NOT have a compressor it will need water (or ice water) added to it regularly. Read carefully before you buy.

Make sure you get a dual hose unit so the condenser is cooled with outside air instead of pulling air from inside. It might be more expensive but it will actually work.

Yes.  We had one when we were in an apartment and it was glorious.  Could get the bedroom to 16c

The dual hose portable units are nearly twice as efficient as the single hose models. Highly recommend, however you do have to empty the water collected from the condenser on a regular basis. Unless you are lucky enough to be in a situation where you can run a hose.

Worst case, if you are unable to do the 'rental' trick, the portable units are worth while having around. Then again, the window units are so much cheaper =/

There really isn't such a thing as a high performance coil pack, especially when it comes to COP. You either get good ignition or your don't (due to a number of issues, including poor coils).
I'd stick with Denso or Bosch. RockAuto ftw.

I'm not much of a Toyota guy, but when it comes to performance there is only so far you can do with little changes until you need to go FI. Didn't they make a TRD supercharager for that engine?

I'm a dummy when it comes to automobiles. I only know what little I've had to fix on my cars, which isn't much. Your advice helps a bunch, though. I at least know what I need now.

I'll be replacing the spark plugs at the same time as well.
So with spark plugs, I generally check them with every oil change: http://www.aa1car.com/library/reading_spark_plugs.jpg And check the gap.
Mind you, thats with copper NGKs (V-Power). If you never want to have to play with them, buy some platinum or iridium.

Remember, oil on the plug boots is bad.
I was already eyeing bosch platinum plugs. And I didn't know it was good practice to check them at each oil change. I still don't change my own oil, though.

What's this about the gap though? I know it's important but have no idea how to achieve perfection.
If you are using basic copper plugs, then I would check the gap on every oil change. You will need a gap tool, available at any auto tool store. The recommended gap will be in your factory service manual (FSM) or possibly your owners manual. That said, get a copy of your FSM. Download it, buy it if you have to, but don't use Haynes or Chiltons. They are shitty.

Personally, I only use NGK plugs. They are solid and easily available. Platinum or iridium plugs only last longer than copper plugs; they don't perform any better. In a lot of cases, you cannot even re-gap platinum or iridium, so there is that.

Long Island Iced Tea.

Not even joking.

Weed.  I know it sounds dumb but it's prescribed for sleep disorders and really works.  After a while it's pretty much impossible to stay awake if you're resting.  If it doesn't work then it's probably more severe insomnia.

I thought about that, but I don't think I'd actually even know where to get any...

As for a drink, that does help sometimes, but not every time. Sometimes over the counter sleep aids like Melatonin help, but some nights they almost seem to do the total opposite.

Re: question for _________ - Evil Cheese - 09-01-2015

Warm milk or hot tea (chamomile is a good start) are usually what I try first, then fapping/sex, then if I really can't get to sleep I take a Benedryl. Usually if it's that bad it means my allergies are acting up and I'm having trouble breathing.

Some pointers I picked up from my psych rotation RE: primary insomnia

Key to maintaining sleep is cognitive behavioral therapy and sleep hygiene techniques. Former means things like relaxation exercises; consider looking up one of the many CBT-i coach mobile apps to help you learn relaxation/deep breath exercises, etc. The latter is a lot of common sense: sleep and wake at consistent times every day, get a regular amount each night, don't do anything stimulating right before bed, get consistent daily exercise, do something relaxing before bed. Also worth mentioning is stimulus control--only use your bed for sleep or sex. Remove electronic devices from the bedroom. And if you can't sleep after laying there for ~25min, get up and do something else like reading and try again shortly.

There are a shitload of pharmacologic solutions as I'm sure you're familiar but they seem to all have problems--sedative-hypnotics and alcohol have rebound insomnia effects and are prone to dependency, and are more or less not drugs you should ideally take long-term to begin with. Ramelteon (a melatonin receptor agonist) seems to be exempt from this rule, but the body of research on it is very small as it is a new drug. Ditto for melatonin in general. But try to limit drugs to occasional, as-needed use.

My secret? always be tired.
