Computer keeps crashing on L4D and TF2. HALP! - If-I-Die-Its-Lag - 10-03-2009
Ever since I got a new computer, I kept on crashing for some odd reason on Source games. So far, it seems that way since I can play SFIV without any crash so far. I'm also sure that I updated my drivers. Any tips?

but on a more serious note, could you post the error messages (if there are any)? I mean, we really can't help you without that information. Plus, OS, graphics card, Ram, etc?

Oddly enough, there isn't any error message. The computer just turns off until I turn it back up.

does it do a power off sequence, or does it cut power?
are you accidentally hitting your power strip switch with your foot in excitement?

Actually, me and my dad build it from the ground up.
And actually Zaneyard, I'm very sure that I did not hit the power strip by accident.

i kinda assumed power supply, but i've never put a power supply in a computer that couldn't run it. i also found it odd that it would only do it on source games

I told HeK about it, he says he thinks its the mobo, but that there will be more advice to follow.

What is your power supply brand and size?
It's possible that Source games utilize extensions within your video card or CPU that other games or applications do not. This may either draw more power, generate more heat, or initiate a fault.
How long can you play a source game before your computer shuts off? Can you monitor/log your temps/voltages (Speedfan?) and see if any trends relate to when your PC shuts off.
I'd also run a Memtest86 and a few loops of 3DMark just for giggles, see if that has any effect.
Right now I would lean at either a faulty power supply or motherboard.
