Buying a PS3 - Eschatos - 04-15-2013 I got some money saved up and am thinking of buying a PS3(preferably the 80gb model for backwards compatability). What games do yall recommend? I like pretty much every genre except for sports. My current list: Demon's Souls Red Dead Redemption Valkyria Chronicles Ni No Kuni:Wrath of whatever Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD Re: Buying a PS3 - Squishy3 - 04-15-2013 The Infamous games The Sly HD collection if you haven't played them Jak and Daxter HD collection if you haven't played them Journey (PSN title) Guacamelee (PSN title, is a Metroidvania with a Luchador) Yakuza 3 and 4 (these are relatively cheap now too, and both include a synopsis of the previous games, 3 contains a synopsis of 1 and 2, 4 contains a synopsis of 1 2 and 3) Both Ratchet and Clank games for the PS3 are also really good, and there's also a HD collection available for the older games. Uncharted 2 is also really good but I honestly can't recommend 3. They hit the high-note with 2 I think, and 3, while not bad didn't really grab me the way 2 did. Folklore (extremely underrated PS3 launch title) Games that aren't out yet that soon will be that I recommend getting whenever: Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (basically Capcom's take on the Souls phenomenon mixed with Monster Hunter and Devil May Cry, this game is an expansion but also includes all of the content from the original game, launching at $39.99 instead of $59.99) Deadly Premonition: Director's Cut (Awesome Twin Peaks style game with a wacky story and improved gameplay and graphics over the previous version. previous version looked like a dreamcast game.) Re: Buying a PS3 - FlyingMongoose - 04-15-2013 You can actually purchase and download ALL of those from the PSN store, all of them at an added discount if PSN+... it may be worth it to get PSN + to get those games, then cancel it. Re: Buying a PS3 - Evil Cheese - 04-15-2013 I'd also recommend Flower if you like Journey. There are some other cool PS1/2 download titles like the 3D Final Fantasy games and the Wild ARMS series if you don't already have them all. Puzzle Fighter is fun too if you don't already have it for another system. I also really enjoyed Little Big Planet. I rented Folklore back when I first got my PS3 in like 2008 and I wasn't a big fan. It really felt like a launch game to me and had what I would describe as early PS2 play mechanics. Re: Buying a PS3 - FlyingMongoose - 04-15-2013 They're already downloaded and installed... so... it should let you. The games you get for free become unavailable if you cancel PS+ Also as far as game recommendations. The Last of Us comes out in May and it should be very good. Re: Buying a PS3 - zaneyard - 04-17-2013 i'd really like to get a ps3 to play the metal gear game. Also, shadow of the colossus and ratchet and clank games cause they run like shit on emulators. Will all of those games(aside from MG) off PSN run on any version of the console? [/quote]any fat ps3 will also still play ps1 discs. not sure about the slims the original ps3s offered hardware backwards compatibility for ps2 but later fat ps3s used software emulation, then they took the software emulation out and are now releasing ps2 games on the psn for $9.99 each. good old sony. And due to the cell processor I don't think there will ever be a PS3 emulator for PC, and for the same reason, there will be likely no backwards compatibility built into the PS4 either. Although, I'm likely to put off a purchase for quite a while, unless I find myself extremely bored in uni; which is something I highly doubt will happen. Re: Buying a PS3 - at0m - 04-22-2013 Step 1: Don't. Re: Buying a PS3 - Eschatos - 05-04-2013 And I bought it. I got Demons Souls, Dragons Dogma, and Red Dead Redemption to play. Dragon's Dogma is an unusual game. It's basically Demon's Souls as a greatly expanded game, but the combat is much less fluid. I'm not sure which game I like more. Re: Buying a PS3 - Squishy3 - 05-05-2013 (05-04-2013, 11:35 PM)Eschatos link Wrote: And I bought it.
